1. إِني لغير سفاح منك فاعترفي

    أهوى الحسان ولا يغررك منصرفي

    I am not a killer, so confess

    I love beauty, don't be fooled if I leave

  2. ما من فتى نجد حل الشباب به

    إِلا يحب عناق البدَّن الهيف

    No young man in Najd has the solution to youth

    Except loving the embrace of a plump and chubby woman

  3. لا عن قلى قبضت نفسي أعنتها

    عنكن يا حسنات الحلي واللحف

    It's not because I controlled myself, I helped it

    It's because of you, pretty ones, and the jewelry and fabrics

  4. أنتن قرة عين لم أقل فندا

    أنتن أحسن ما في الدهر من تحف

    You are the delight of the eye, I did not say useless

    You are the best the times have produced as masterpieces

  5. لو كنت أدرك ما يعتافكن علي

    كنتن من حيث مجاري الصدر في كنف

    If I had known the consequence of desiring you

    You would have been where my chest flows into my sleeve

  6. لكن نأت درجات المجد عن رجل

    يمسي ويصبح بين الخرَّد القطف

    But high degrees of glory are reached by a man

    Who spends his nights and days between silk and velvet

  7. فاستيقني نبأ أن العلا نزعت

    أسيافها رغبتي عنكنَّ فانصرفي

    So be sure the news that ambition

    Has diverted my desire from you, so turn away

  8. حاز العلا وعلا فوق العلا صعداً

    من راح منتصراً بالبتر القذف

    Ambition prevailed and ascended even higher

    He who left victorious with the bouncing strike

  9. إن الهلاك وأسباب الهلاك وما

    يجدي الهلاك هو الاخلاد في الكنف

    Destruction, the causes of destruction and what

    Destruction brings is perishing under the wing

  10. ليس امرؤ برز الصحراء مطلباً

    عزا كمضطجع في ظلة السقف

    A man who went out to the desert pursuing

    Glory is not like one reclining in the shade of a roof

  11. يال الصلاة ويا آل الزكاة متى

    أرجو إجابتكم قد طال معتكفي

    O people of prayer and people of zakat when

    Will you answer me? My retreat has been long

  12. يال الرجال إلى كم لا يزعزعكم

    شعري ويردعكم صوتي وملتهفي

    O people, how long will my poetry not shake you

    And my voice not deter you, and my fervent call?

  13. لو كنت أقرع جلموداً أجاب فما

    أجفاكم عرباً بالصارخ اللهف

    If I were bald from stupidity, it would have answered. But

    You did not find an Arab too fervent in his zeal

  14. نمتم وبت أقاسي كيف أنقذكم

    من غمرة السفها إني بكم لحفي

    You slept while I suffer. How can I save you

    From the depths of frivolity? I am wrapped up in you

  15. هيهات أبعدما في البعد حيث نأى

    ما بين مبتسم ناء ومكتلف

    Alas! Further than farness, where Naa turned away

    What is between a smiling one and a terminal patient

  16. ليت الاله كما أني أخو أنف

    أولاكم أنفاً صعباً كما أنفي

    I wish God, as I am a brother sympathetic

    To you, were a tough nose, like my nose

  17. كيف الرضى ومتى أرضى وكلكم

    يسعى لخدمة أهل الظلم والحيف

    How can I be content, and when will I be content, and all of you

    Are seeking to serve the people of injustice and violation?

  18. مالي أرى صوراً حسناً ولا مهجاً

    فيها تدافع ظلم الظالم الصلف

    Why do I see good images and no infatuated one

    In which the oppression of the arrogant tyrant is resisted?

  19. ما بال من عرف الأحكام يملكه

    من ليس يفرق بين الميم والألف

    What is with the one who knows the rules possessing him

    Who does not distinguish between the meem and the alif?

  20. شلت أكفكم إن لم تكن خلقت

    إلاَّ لمس جلود الغيد والغلف

    Your hands are paralyzed if they were not created

    Except to touch the skins of snakes and scorpions

  21. من لم يكن وله كف مسلمة

    يحمي الذمار بها فاعدده في الجيف

    Whoever does not have a hand outstretched

    To protect the vipers with it, count him among the dead

  22. من ذاق طعم ثلاث باح مجرمه

    طعم العسولة والابلاد والضعف

    Whoever tastes the flavor of three misfortunes after sunrise

    The tastes of poverty, exile and weakness

  23. لا خير في رجل تحميه ذمته

    ملقى الجنان قميّ الوجه كالوصف

    There is no good in a man whose covenant protects him

    Thrown into gardens, bleary-faced like withered flowers

  24. أكرم بفتية صدق عشرة عبرت

    بحر الجزائر في الرحمن لم تخف

    Honor the young men of truth who crossed

    The Algerian sea in faith without fear

  25. إن الذين لهم في البحر مختلف

    أولى البرية في التقديم والشرف

    Those who have differences in the sea

    Are foremost in precedence and honor on land

  26. هل مثل معبد من زار الامام على

    كلّ ثلاثة أسفار أخي الثقف

    Is there anyone like Ma’bad who visited Imam Ali

    On every three journeys, my brother Thaqif?

  27. أو هل كمثل أبي عبد الاله أخي

    عامين عمنْ يحمد اللّه من أنف

    Or is there anyone like Abu Abdullah my brother

    Who praises God with his breath?

  28. وافخر وحسبك يا ابن الشيخ مفتخراً

    الأريحي وزد في وصفه وصف

    And boast, and for you, son of the Sheikh, it is enough to boast

    Al-Arihi, and increase in describing him and add more

  29. واذكر أخاك أبا إسحاق أن له

    عزماً يفلُّ غرار المنصل الرهف

    And mention your brother Abu Ishaq that he

    Has determination that makes the deceptive flexible sword recoil

  30. واعرف لخدنك ذي الأفضال أحمد ما

    من كبر همته شاهدت واعترف

    And acknowledge, for your friend Ahmad, what

    Great ambition I have witnessed and acknowledged

  31. وارفع ظنونك بالثوري أي فتى

    مذ قام قام ولم ينكل ولم يقف

    And raise your suspicions of al-Thawri. What a lad!

    Since he stood up, he stood up and did not weaken or stop

  32. ثم اعترف لأبي بكر فضيلته

    ذاك الفتى الماجد ابن الماجد الأنف

    Then acknowledge the virtue of Abu Bakr

    That glorious lad, son of the glorious and determined

  33. يا رائحاً عجلاً حييت حي أبي

    عني معا وعن القاضي الرضي الثقفي

    O you who went quickly to greet the living quarters of my father

    And the judicious al-Razi al-Thaqafi

  34. من قام قبل يقوم الناس غير ونٍ

    ومن بقي وقد انسلوا إلى الغرف

    Whoever stands before people stand, other than weakness

    And whoever remains after they have withdrawn to their rooms

  35. شيخاً رآى طلبي فرضاً فقام بما

    حملت محتملاً ها ذاك غير خفي

    A sheikh who saw my request as a duty, so he carried out what

    I asked him to carry, bearing it. Here he is, not hidden

  36. ساق الزمان به عنفاً ليبلوه

    فازداد مبتسماً والدهر ذو عنف

    Time forced him violently to test him

    So he became more smiling while time is violent

  37. أكرم به فله بين الورى سلف

    يعلو به الشرق العالي على الشرف

    Honor him, for he has a predecessor

    Between all people, the sublime east rises above honor

  38. للّه ماثرة للدين ثبتها

    والدهر ينقلها خلف إِلى خلف

    For the sake of religion, he established a base

    And time moves it from successor to successor

  39. إن همتي كبرت فالأمر همته

    والنجل لا جرم نصر من الطرف

    If my ambition grew great, the matter is its ambition

    And the son is of course the victory of the side

  40. إني لمن حسنات الشيخ واحدة

    ما كنت معترفاً أو غير معترف

    I am for one of the Sheikh's good deeds

    I would not have acknowledged or not acknowledged

  41. حييت يا أبتي حييت قد وردت

    إخواننا الفضلا حييت وازدلف

    Greetings my father! Greetings you have arrived

    Our brothers in virtue have arrived. Greetings, draw near

  42. والبس هديت لباس الحرب منتجدا

    وارتد بأردية التشمير والتحف

    And wear the clothes of war I have gifted you

    And return with the robes of resolve and struggle

  43. ما بعد إذ نزلوا إلاَّ التي رجفت

    منها قلوب أولي الطغيان والسرف

    After they descended, nothing but what shook

    The hearts of the tyrannical and extravagant

  44. حرب تأجج كالنيران يشعلها

    ضرب ملوح منسوب إلى العجف

    A war blazing like fires lit

    By the strokes of a waving sword attributed to aides

  45. ظمآن منصله ظمآن قد عرفت

    منه الحقيقة عند الزحف والزلف

    Thirsty is his blade, thirsty, I have known

    The truth from him during the crawl and pull

  46. يهوى الطعان يحب الضرب يطربه

    وقع القنا وصرير البيض بالحجف

    He craves the stab, he loves the blow, he delights in

    The impact of the spear and the hissing of white swords in the fray

  47. حان القيام بما يبكيك لادمعت

    عيناك من جزع يا ربة الشنف

    The time has come to weep for what makes you weep. Not a tear

    From your eyes out of sorrow, O lady of the combs

  48. لا تصدعي ببكاك القلب واعتصمي

    صبراً فلست على حال بمرتقف

    Do not distress your heart with crying and cling

    To patience, for you are not in a halting state

  49. إني أحب على حد السيوف بأن

    أمضي على أثر الماضين من سلفي

    I love to be at the edge of swords so that I

    Can follow the trace of those who preceded from my ancestors

  50. يا نفس إِن سهام الموت راشقة

    كل الأنام ففي الغايات فانقذفي

    O self, the arrows of death are pouring down

    On all people, so hurl yourself into the unknown

  51. يا نفس لا جرم لي إِن الوغى تلف

    لكنها تلف ينجي من التلف

    O self, of course I am wrapped up

    But it is a wrap that saves from being wrapped

  52. يا نفس لا تهني باللّه واقتحمي

    حوض الردى وردي في المعرك الرجف

    O self, do not waver, by God, and dive

    Into the pond of destruction and return to the shaking battlefield

  53. إن العصاة أبت ألا تساعدني

    حتى تدق كدق الفهر للخزف

    The disobedient have refused to help me

    Until it rings like the ringing of pottery to potsherds

  54. هذا المقال إِلى كل الورى نذر

    من كل مؤتلف منهم ومختلف

    This saying is devoted to all people

    Every group among them, agreeing and disagreeing

  55. من شاء ينصرنا فاللّه ينصره

    أو كان يكره نصر اللّه فليقف

    Whoever wants to help us, God will help him

    Or if he hates God's victory, then let him stop

  56. ثم الصلاة على المختار أحمد ما

    لاح الصباح ولاح البرق في الفيف

    Then prayers upon the Chosen One Ahmad as long as

    Dawn shines and lightning flashes in the horizon
