1. برقة أنف أم بناظر أدعج

    سبتك سليمى أم بثغر مفلج

    A flash of a delicate nose, or alluring eyes?

    Your charm captivated me, or a mouth that entices

  2. أأم هي لما اصفر صفو بياضها

    بصفرتها أضنتك أم بالتبهج

    Is it when her bright complexion paled

    Did her paleness make you languish, or rejoice?

  3. أم العنق السامي أم الجعد أذزها

    به الخد أم من خدها المتبلج

    Or her tall, elegant neck? Or her curly hair

    Adorning her cheek? Or from her cheek like fresh snow?

  4. أم الكعب إِذ سامت سماواته العلا

    وتاه بصدر كالسجنجل أبلج

    Or her ankles, when she walked proudly like the heavens?

    And wandered into a bosom like a smooth rock

  5. بل الكفل الرجاج بل هظم خصرها

    بل الفخذ اللفا وساق خدلج

    Nay, her plump shins, or the knobs of her waist

    Or her ample thighs and legs like marble columns

  6. هي السلب إِن تصمت

    هي الخلب إن حكت

    She is plunder if silent

    She is magic if she spoke

  7. هي الدعص إن تذهب

    هي الغصن إن تجي

    She is a battalion if she walked away

    She is a branch if she came

  8. هي الشمس لكن ما لشمس جلابب

    هي البدر لكن لم يكن ذا تغنج

    She is the sun, but the sun has no veils

    She is the moon, but never one to coquet

  9. حديثة سن من ثماني عشرة

    فأقرت ولم تحمل ولم تتنتج

    A maiden of eighteen springs

    Who has settled, and neither borne children nor produced

  10. كأن أعالي زهرة القطن لونها

    وفي لينه فهي الشفاءُ لمبهج

    The color of her is like the peak of a cotton flower

    And in her softness, she is healing and delightful

  11. سبتك ولم تنظر سوى الساق حرمة

    بغير اعتماد نظرة المتحرج

    Your charm, looking only at the inviolability of her leg

    Without depending on the gaze of the embarrassed

  12. فكيف إِذا عن كشحها انحل درعها

    وميئزرها عن عجزها المترجرج

    So how if her coat slipped from her shoulders

    And her apron from her swaying hips

  13. إِذاً لغضضت الطرف عنها تنزهاً

    ومكرمة عن عفة وتحرُّج

    Then you would lower your eyes from her in piety

    And respect, out of chastity and embarrassment

  14. نهيتك أمس يا سليمى عن الصبا

    وقلت تواري في الخبا وتولجي

    Yesterday, O Salma, I forbade you from passion

    And said, withdraw into privacy and curl up

  15. لأن تدانى قصر خطوك فاتن

    وطرفك فتان وإِن لم تبرَّج

    For if the palace of your steps drew near, a temptress

    And your glance a seducer, even if you didn't adorn yourself

  16. فما بال يا سلمى ابتذالك بيننا

    وكشفك عن خلخال تبر ودملج

    So what is it, O Salma, that cheapens you among us

    And reveals your anklet of gold and gems?

  17. أناسية أم خان دينك رقّة

    ومن دينه سمحاق لم يتحرّج

    Forgetfulness, or has your religion betrayed you tenderness?

    And whoever's religion is tolerance did not hesitate

  18. لأن لم تقرّي في الستور وتستري

    محاسنك الحسنى بترك التبرج

    Because you did not settle into the veils and cover

    Your excellent beauty by avoiding wanton display

  19. ليغشاك تعزيز الامام وقد صفا

    له الأمر من بعد اعتياق التغنج

    To overwhelm you, bolstering the Imam after

    The matter was clear for him after the end of chaos

  20. تداركه ذو العرش ثم سميدع

    سمام لمن ناوى غياث لملتجي

    May God, Lord of the Throne help him, then Samaid

    Samil, for whoever intended deliverance for the oppressed

  21. إِذ ريع فالليث القضا قض دونه

    وإِن سئل المعروف لم يتلجلج

    For he bites like a ferocious lion with his judgement

    And if asked a favor does not hesitate

  22. فتى حوشبي عامريّ جدوده

    بنوا كندة الملاد أولاد مذحج

    A Hushbi youth whose ancestry

    Were the chiefs of Kindah and the tribes of Mudhij

  23. هو الملك السلطان ذو المجد واسمه

    لتعترفي العباس يا ابنة خزرج

    He is the King, the Sultan of glory, and his name

    Is for you to acknowledge, O daughter of Khazraj

  24. أبا الفضل بعد اللّه أنت رجيتي

    وليس لسلمى هجت لكن تهيجي

    Abu Al-Fadl, after God you are my hope

    And Salma did not rave, but provoke

  25. لخيل إلى خيل تكر وحجفل

    إِلى حجفل في حومة ذات مخرج

    To horses unto the horses of Tayy and Hajafah

    To Hajafah in the battle with many outlets

  26. ونقع أراه فوقهم وحوائم

    تحوم ورايات تلوح كزبرج

    And I see them above them and their brave steeds

    Circling, and the banners waving like bridges

  27. بيوم إِذا انجلت من الشر عقدة

    به انعقدت أخرى بكف مفرَّج

    On a day when the knot of evil is untied

    With it, another is tied with a relieving fist

  28. كمثلك حشحاش فحشحش لظى الوغى

    أبا الفضل حشحشها أبا الفضل هيج

    Like you, troublemaker make trouble for the fury of war

    Abu Al-Fadl make trouble, Abu Al-Fadl provoke

  29. تأجّج أهج أجج فعجج عجاجة

    ولج لجج الهيجا اللجوج ولجج

    Ignite the most flaming flames and be fiery

    Trouble the troubled and ignite

  30. أقمْ قمْ زمن أطمس مشمشم مشهم

    مدمدم جمجم مرغمٌ أم أملج

    Take a stand, an era to erase

    Erase the pessimists, the doubters and the hesitants

  31. أجدّ السرى شمر هديت النجا النجا

    تنال منال الغاشم المتدلج

    I urge the loyal to prepare the loyal

    To get what is deserved by the enemy dressed for war

  32. أزح كل ريب أهلك الشك أخمدن

    ظنون الأعادي أنجز الوعد أزعج

    Remove all doubts, destroy suspicion, extinguish

    The enemies' doubts, fulfill the promise, disturb

  33. أقم لمنار الحق غير مكلثم

    ولا متعلثم ولا متلجلج

    Take a stand for the minaret of truth without

    Wavering or hesitation or reluctance

  34. بعزة رب العرش جل جلاله

    دراكاً لنا أطلق عقال المعرج

    By the honor of the Lord of the Throne, may His glory be glorified

    Grant us our request, release the tied camel

  35. شئمنا لظلات البيوت أظلنا

    ظلال القنا والألويات وفرج

    We were bored by the shadows of houses, we shadowed

    The shadows of spears, the banners and wide plains

  36. صدينا ودون الماء قولك اسرجوا

    فقلها جزاك اللّه خيراً وأثلج

    We turned away from water saying saddle up

    So say it, may God reward you with good and ice

  37. بفضل من الأحلام لا بل أشربْها

    بصنف العوالي الجم الخيل أسرج

    With grace not dreams, nay but water them

    With highborn steeds, beauty, the horses saddled

  38. فحولك كهلان وحولك حمير

    خلائف قحطان من كل منهج

    Your steeds are mature and around them donkeys

    The progeny of Qahtan from every path

  39. بكل كميت لون دم وأدهم

    أحم أحم اللون لون السفيرج

    With every piled up color of blood and more red

    Redder in color than the color of sulfur

  40. أمون نوار لين الراس شامخ

    أقب لعوب شامه الأنف أعوج

    Flexible strong necks, smooth foreheads

    Prominent noses, charming gap-toothed

  41. فحتى إذا جاءتك شعثاً خيولهم

    وأرجلهم من حاسر ومدجج

    So that when their horses come to you disheveled

    And their feet tired from war and battle

  42. فصك بهم شرقاً ففي الشرق عدة

    تقيم بها في الغرب كل معوج

    Then strike them east for in the east are supplies

    With which you straighten in the west all that is bent

  43. جب الشرق والغرب اسط في الأرض مصلحا

    أمور الورى بالعدل أدب وحرج

    Oblige the east and west to improve conditions

    Of the people with justice, discipline and care

  44. دس الجور بالحق امحق التيه بالهدى

    دع الغي للرشد امحض الحق للشجي

    Instill justice, obliterate misguidance with guidance

    Leave vain desires for reason, pure truth for the loyal

  45. فإن عروس الحق أضحت غريبة

    مطردة تمشي بطمر مبرج

    For the bride of truth has become a stranger

    Expelled, wandering with a torn cloak

  46. كأن لم تكن كانت تتيه بحليها

    على عهد عبد اللّه ألو لم تدبج

    As if she never was, she used to wander with her jewelry

    In the days of Abdullah before being adorned

  47. فبالأمر خلخلها وبالنهي حلها

    وبالعدل كللها وبالفضل توّج

    So disturb her with command and motivate her with prohibition

    And crown her with justice and honor her with virtue

  48. فإنك لو عاينتها وهي لابس

    لحلتها عاجلتها بالتزوج

    For if you saw her wearing her gown

    You would hastily court her for marriage

  49. غريباً بدا الاسلام قدماً وهكذا

    هو اليوم إلا أنه اليوم مرتج

    Islam today seems strange as it did before

    Except today it is agitated

  50. خذ العفو وأمر أنت بالعرف تكسرن

    بذاك جناحي كل عفريت أهوج

    Take amnesty and enjoin what is proper, you will break

    With that the wings of every stubborn monster

  51. ولا تتبع أهواء قوم دعوا إلى

    خسار فتخسر واسم للحق تعرج

    And do not follow the passions of people who call

    To loss, so you lose, and the truth becomes twisted

  52. على درج الفردوس في غرف العلا

    مع المصطفى صلى الاله على النجي

    To the degrees of Paradise in the chambers of the Highest

    With the Chosen One, may God’s blessings be upon the Prophet
