1. مالت تسائلني إذ مثلها يسل

    خود خدلجّة ألفاظها عسل

    Why do you ask me when the likes of her inquire?

    Her cheeks are like honeycombs, her words like honey.

  2. والثدى مثل مليح العاج صفرته

    والصدر منها كلون الشمس مشتعل

    Her breasts are like yellow ivory

    And her chest glows like the radiant sun.

  3. عن آل حجوة أهل الدين هل صدقوا

    أَو هل وفوا بعهود اللّه وابتذلوا

    Regarding the Hujwah clan, people of faith, did they speak truth

    Or did they fulfill God's covenants or violate them?

  4. والخود قد شهدت أيام حربهم

    لكنها طلبت بشرى بما فعلوا

    Her cheeks witnessed the days of their wars

    Yet she sought good tidings of their deeds.

  5. لو غاب ما صنعوا من صفو ودهم

    ما غاب ما صنعته البيض والأسل

    If their loyalty and love were to disappear

    The kindness of whites and blacks would not disappear.

  6. يا خود إن يك قد أرضاك مدحهم

    فالقوم ذروة أهل الدين والقلل

    O cheeks! If praising them pleases you

    Then they are the epitome of faith and its peaks.

  7. عيسى ابن حجره هم أبناؤه وبه

    قدما وتركة موسى قامت الدول

    Jesus son of Hujrah, they are his sons and in them

    Lies the legacy of Moses, the state endured.

  8. هموا فما لبثوا قاموا فما مكثوا

    آلوا فما نكثوا عادوا فما نكلوا

    They intended and did not hesitate, they stood and did not linger,

    They promised and did not break their word, they returned and did not waver.

  9. لا تبتئس لخزان المال أنفسهم

    كلا وكيف وللارواح قد بذلوا

    Do not grieve that they spent their wealth

    No! How could that be when they sacrificed their souls?

  10. ما منهم رجل إلا وغرته

    إلا القليل عليها للظبا قبل

    Among them no man except whom war seduced

    Except a few whom the gazelle seduced before.

  11. كم طامح طمحت في الجور همته

    قد أقعدوه فأضحى خدنه الفشل

    How many ambitious men's ambitions

    They made sit still, his endeavor ended in failure.

  12. كم واثب بطراً فيهم بفتنته

    قد صيروه كنعل الوطي يبتذل

    How many headstrong men charging with their mischief

    They made like a worn-out sandal, humiliated.

  13. يا آل حجوة إن الصبر مكرمة

    أيضاً وفيه ينال القوم ما أملوا

    O Hujwah clan, patience is an honor

    Through it people attain what they hope for.

  14. يا آل حجوة إن كانت أوائلكم

    نالوا العلا فبما نالوا العلا فسلوا

    O Hujwah clan, if your predecessors

    Attained loftiness, then ask how they attained loftiness.

  15. بالسيف أم بمقال اليعمريّ لنا

    عبد العزيز وفيما قاله خبل

    By the sword? Or by al-Ya'muri's speech for us

    Abdul Aziz, and regarding what he said, he erred.

  16. إن الامام يحب السفح عادته

    والمسلمون إذا ما حاربوا حملوا

    The Imam loves to ride low, such is his custom

    And Muslims, when they fight, carry the burden.

  17. وهل يكون بزعم الشيخ عادته

    فوق الحصان عليه اللام تشتعل

    Does the Shaykh claim such is his custom?

    Atop the steed, the banners aflame upon it?

  18. بل قال يركب ظهر العير مجتنباً

    لبس السلاح إلى أن يأتي الأجل

    Rather he said he rides the camel's back, avoiding

    Wearing armor until his appointed time comes.

  19. لو كان ذاك لما دانت جبابرة

    صعر الخدود لأمر اللّه وامتثلوا

    Had it been so, the mighty ones with flushed cheeks

    Would not have bent to God's command and complied.

  20. ولا الذين لدى عبد العزيز لهم

    في صحن مسجده القينات والزجل

    Nor would those who in Abdul Aziz's court

    Uttered poems and sang for him.

  21. لم يدر أن جنان الخلد منهجها

    وطي البطون إذا ما أحجم البطل

    He did not know that the path to heavenly gardens

    Is covering your belly when the hero shows restraint.

  22. لا يحسبن بأن الحور مطلبها

    لثم الملاح وجنح الليل منسدل

    Let him not think the houris desire

    To kiss smooth cheeks and night's wings outspread.

  23. لا والذي خلق الحوراء ناعمة

    حسنا المحاسن فيها يحسن الغزل

    No! By Him who created the delicate houri

    Perfect in beauty, skilled in amorous verse.

  24. بيضاً مهفهفة زهراً مخلخلة

    ريَّا الخلاخل فرعا فرعها رجل

    She is white, fluttering, a blossoming flower

    Whose anklets chime as she steps lightly.

  25. إِن الكواعب ما منهن كاعبة

    إِلا ذوائبها يغطى بها الكفل

    No alluring houri but her hair cascades

    Covering her shoulders at their slope.

  26. لكن لها كفل رابٍ يتعتعها

    عند القيام وجيد زانه النبل

    At her throat a dewy softness stirs her

    When she rises, the nape of her neck graceful.

  27. في عينها حور في لحظها فتر

    في ثغرها درر في مشيها كسل

    In her eyes a houri, in her glance temptation

    In her mouth pearls, in her walk languor.

  28. إِن قلت زينها أنوار حلتها

    أو حليها فبها قد زينت الحلل

    If I said the light adorning her beauty

    Or her jewelry, she was adorned in her robes.

  29. تلك التي ملأت بالقيظ إِن لبست

    قلب القرير بها أو حين تتصل

    She who filled the noonday heat, were she to don

    The heart of the devoted would stir upon embracing her.

  30. تلك الشفاء فطوبى من يلاثمها

    تشفي الغليل إِذا ما مسها الرجل

    She is healing, blessed is he whocompanions her

    Healing anguish when he touches her.

  31. في جنة خلقت للحور ساكنها

    جار المهيمن ما منها لها حور

    In a garden made for the houris, her dwelling

    Next to the All-Powerful, no rival for her.

  32. فيها الفواكه والنعماء دانية

    والمصطفى وبها الأملاك والرسل

    In it fruits and pleasures nearby

    And the Chosen One, and the angels and messengers.

  33. صلى ولم ربي جل جلَّ على

    كل الكرام وخص المصطفى الأزل

    My Lord abundantly blessed

    All the generous, especially the Chosen Eternally.
