واللّه لا اشراً قنا ولا بطراً

لا لا ولا طلبا ملكاً وعدواناً

By Allah, we sought no evil or injustice,

No, no, nor did we desire kingship or transgression.

لكن كقدوتنا بالعدل إذ نبذب

آيات خالقنا والحق قد بانا

Rather we took the just as our example when we rejected

The verses of our Creator, and the truth has been made clear.

شكراً لخالقنا إذ ليس نحن كمن

ضل السبيل ورام الملك طغيانا

Thanks be to our Creator, for we are not like those

Who have lost the way and sought tyrannical kingship.

إن الاله هدانا جل جل إلى

أهدى الهداية والعرفان عرفانا

Indeed God has guided us, Most High, Most High, to

The best guidance and recognition, knowingly.

إنا نقول بحكم اللّه قد شهدت

كل البرية في التحكيم قتلانا

We say by God's judgement, all of creation has witnessed

Our arbitration regarding the killing, openly.

إنا على بصر من ديننا وعلى

قصد السبيل أخو العدوان يلقانا

We are insightful regarding our religion, and steadfast

Upon the path - the brother of transgression confronts us.

إِنا نحث على مرضاة خالقنا

ديناً ونخلع من قد رام عصيانا

We urge pleasing our Creator

As a religion, and reject whoever sought disobedience.

إنا نميز ما بين الولي وما

بين العدو كما قد قال مولانا

We distinguish between the ally and the

Enemy, as our Master has stated.

لم يرض أو لنا قدماً مداهنة

في دينهم وكذا لم نرض ادهانا

He was not pleased with us placating

Their religion, nor were we pleased with hypocrisy.

لو أن آدم لم يندم لزلته

صلوا عليه لقلنا مات خسرانا

If Adam had not repented his sin,

Blessings upon him, we'd say he died losing.

لكن نقول لقابيل الشقي مضى

نجل الصفي إلى النيران سكرانا

But we say to wretched Cain he went

The son of the pure one to the fires drunk.

أيضاً ويونس لولا تاب مات كما

فرعون في ظلمات البحر شر قانا

Also Jonah, had he not repented, would have died like

Pharaoh in the darkness of the evil sea.

والعبد إن سبقت فينا ديانته

بالقضل أصبح بالتقديم أولانا

And a servant, if his religion surpasses ours

In fairness, he would become foremost among us.

ليس الشريف لدينا غير متبع

بعد العفافة للرحمان رضوانا

Nobility with us is not merely inherited -

Rather, it is for the virtuous, those pleased with the Merciful.

حتى القيامة هذا ما تعبدنا

رب السماء به نصاً وتبيانا

This is what we worship the Lord of the Heavens with

Plainly and clearly until the Day of Resurrection.

واللّه أكرمنا بالعلم منه كما

فضل الجهاد وحسن الصبر أعطانا

God has honored us with knowledge from Him, as

He has preferred jihad and granted excellent patience.

نحن الحماة لدين اللّه ما طلعت

شمس وما غربت رجلاً وفرسانا

We are the protectors of the religion of God when the

Sun rose and when it set, both horsemen and footmen.

نحن القليل وفي القرآن مشتهر

مدح القليل فسل إن كنت حيرانا

We are the few, and the Quran praises

The few openly - ask if you are confused.

نحن الجماعة والاجماع معترف

للعادلين ولو قد كان إنسانا

We are the group, and consensus is recognized

For the just, even if they were but one man.

نحن الشراة فهل من أعصر سلفت

إلا نقيم بها للّه سلطانا

We are the purchasers - so who is more worthy

To establish God's sovereignty in what we have purchased?

لسنا نخيف سبيل العالمين ولا

أيضاً ننبه غير الضد يغشانا

We do not frighten the path of all people, nor

Do we alarm any but the hostile trickster.

لسنا نسائل خلق اللّه مالهم

حرصاً ولسنا نولي الأمر خوانا

We do not ask people for their wealth covetously,

Nor do we betray those in command treacherously.

لسنا نرد لأهل الذنب معذرة

من تاب من كفره أو فعله كانا

We do not offer excuse to the sinful

Whoever repents his disbelief or misdeeds - so be it.

لسنا نقاتل من يبغى مفاوضة

قبل الدعاء ولا من قبل يبدانا

We do not fight whoever seeks negotiations

Before supplication, nor whoever surrenders before us.

لسنا نحرم ما قد حل من دمه

حتى يفيء إلى ذي العرش اذعانا

We do not prohibit what is permitted of blood

Until he returns submissively to the Owner of the Throne.

لا نستحل له مالاً ولا ولداً

كالمشركين ولا نكسوه ايمانا

We do not consider permitted his wealth or child

Like the polytheists, nor clothe him in faith.

من شاء يعلم ما كانت أوائلنا

فيه فسيرتنا تكفيه برهانا

Whoever wishes may know what our beginnings were -

Our conduct will suffice as proof for him.

هذا الخليل امام المسلمين حكت

أنوار سيرته في العدل نيرانا

This Khalil, imam of the Muslims - the lights

Of his just conduct have kindled fires.

يأيها العلم العدل الذي كملت

له الخصال مروات وايمانا

O you who perfected virtue and faith -

Qualities nourished and faith sustained.

إني أحبك والرحمن يعلمه

حب احتساب إلى ذي الطول قربانا

I love you, and the Merciful knows it -

A devotional love to the Owner of Majesty, an offering.

إذ صرت مشتهراً بالفضل أنت ولي

قلب يحب بدين اللّه من دانا

Since you have become renowned in merit, you and your

Heart that loves the religion of God, whoever professes it.

حتى عبرت إليك البحر منتصراً

أيام عدت بما أوليت جذلانا

Until you crossed the sea to me victoriously,

In days you returned with what Ghadhlan was endowed with.

سل عن أخيك أذاق النوم مغتمضاً

إذ ذاك أحزنه أم شد أم لانا

Ask about your brother who found sleep bitter

As this saddened him, or exhausted him, or softened him.

أم خان عند عتو المبطلين بها

عن نصر خالقه إذا كان مجانا

Or did he betray the nullifiers' transgression thereby

From aiding his Creator if he was ungrateful?

كلا لقد زهرت بالعدل عقوته

باللّه جل فلا للّه كفرانا

No! Your brother's nobility has bloomed through justice,

By God - so there is no ingratitude to God.

وانصر أخاك فإن الحرب قائمة

والحق يطلب من أهليه أركانا

And aid your brother, for war is brewing,

And truth is sought by its rightful pillars.

واعلم بأنك قد أثرت مأثرة

فارفع لها شرفاً فالأمر قد هانا

And know you have left a great legacy -

So raise its nobility, for the matter is made easy.

إن الذي غمرت صنعاء دولته

بالفسق أصبح من مولاي فزعانا

Indeed, he whose tyranny flooded Sanaa,

My Lord has become his urgent refuge.

أضحت مخالفة أرض اليماني له

لما رأتك له حصناً ومعوانا

Opposing the Yemeni land became to him

When it saw you as a fortress and supporter for it.

فاحفدهم فهم يدعون ربهم

جهراً لتملكهم سراً واعلانا

So rouse them, for they openly call their Lord

Secretly to rule them, both openly and secretly.

لكن لديك ضعيف كاشح وهن

أبدالنا ولكم في الناس أضغانا

But you have before you feeble Kashsh and tired

Supporters - while you have hatred among people.

والشحر لو نظرت خلقاً تحاربه

أضحت عليه رجال الشحر أعوانا

And Shehr - if you considered it, people fight him,

So Shehr's men have become allies for it.

قد كان أرسل منشوراً لعقوتنا

قصد البغاة وأموالاً وإِخدانا

He had sent a manifesto to our nobility,

Seeking the transgressors, wealth, and betrayal.

ينوي انتصار بني العباس قدوته

في زعمه فغفرنا ذاك كتمانا

He intended aiding the Abbasids in his view -

So we forgave that concealment.

حتى أتى بفعال ليس يفعلها

إلا البوارج حسداً منه ايانا

Until he did deeds only the treacherous do,

Envying us out of ignorance of your rights.

جهلاً بحقك قد خان الذين مضوا

من ستر دارك أخزى اللّه من خانا

In foolishness, he betrayed those who passed

From defending your house - may God disgrace the betrayer!

فهو البغيض فلا تغض لفعلته

إن البغيض يرى الاحسان امهانا

So he is hateful - do not overlook his deed.

The hateful see kindness as humiliation.

انظر إليه بعين البغض إن له

قلباً يصير لدى ذكراك حرانا

Look on him with the eye of hatred, for he has

A heart that burns when you are mentioned.

أغضب لربك إن اللّه يغضبه

ظلم الظلوم وقد أحسبك غضبانا

Be angry for your Lord - God is angered

By the injustice of the unjust, and I think you angry.

اجعله أول ما تحيي البلاد به

إنا نؤمل جيشاً منك يغشانا

Make him the first you greet the country with,

We hope for an army from you to cover us.

للّه جل جلالاً جده وعلا

سبحانه قدساً سبحان سبحانا

To God, Most High, Most Majestic, His Grandness and Exaltation!

Glory to Him! Glory to Him! Glorified!

ثم الصلاة على الأمي أحمد ما

سح الغمام لديه الودق هتانا

Then blessings upon the unlettered prophet Ahmad - when

The clouds poured for him, the parchments humbled.
