1. كوى بالأسا قلبي وأبكى نواظري

    بكاء اليتامى وابتسام الجبابر

    My eyes shed tears of agony, and my heart is aflame

    The tears of orphans, and the smiles of tyrants

  2. وكلفني حمل القواضب والقنا

    وسفك الدما إسراف أهل الكبائر

    I was burdened with carrying jugs and spears

    And shedding blood is the excess of grave sinners

  3. وأزعجني للبين لا عن ملالة

    هجرت قراباتي ظهور المناكر

    I was disturbed from my beloved, not out of boredom

    I abandoned my kin, the appearance of deniers

  4. وأوردني في الأمر والنهي همتي

    وعزمي وما أوتيته من بصائر

    And it led me in commands and prohibitions my determination

    My resolve and what insights I was given

  5. وكان عزيزاً أن أقيم بمنزلي

    إِقامة وهن راغم الأنف صاغر

    It was dear to stay put in my home

    Remaining still, though against my will

  6. يروح ويغدو مهملاً دينه كما

    تروح وتغدو سائمات الأباعر

    Going and coming heedless of his religion

    As camels go grazing with no purpose or aim

  7. فشمرت تشمير امرئ لو تنسمت

    له ريح جدّ طار فوق الأعاصر

    So I girded myself with the strength of a man who

    If he sighed, the winds of resolve would blow above storms

  8. عبرت شناخيباً وجبت مهامها

    وكابدت لجات البحار الزواخر

    I crossed hot sands and faced their harshness

    And endured the hardness of tumultuous seas

  9. فيوماً بنزوى مستمداً عساكراً

    وبالسر يوماً طالباً للعساكر

    One day in Nizwa amassing troops

    Another day secretly seeking soldiers

  10. وقد يزعج الحشحاش من سرداره

    طلاب المعالي والتماس المآثر

    The vermin may annoy the captain

    Those seeking glory and heroic deeds

  11. على أنه لا يدرك المجد والعلا

    فتى لم يذق طعم السرى والهواجر

    For no youth attains glory and heights

    Unless he tastes exile and estrangement

  12. ولم تلفح الغبر السمائم وجهه

    وتلقحه فيها سموم العواصر

    And dust does not touch his proud face

    Nor poison infect him among the evils

  13. أقول وقد مال الزمان بصرفه

    علي فلم أخضع لصرف المقادر

    I say this as time has inclined in its circuit

    Yet I did not submit to the circuit of fate

  14. وزارتني البلوى بأنواع شغبها

    فما وجدتني ساعة غير صابر

    And afflictions befell me with their unrest

    Yet never did I lose patience even an hour

  15. لان سخرت مني الغواة فإنها

    كذا دأبها في الأنبياء الأخائر

    For if decadents ridiculed me, such is their way

    With prophets and the choicest messengers

  16. فأي نبي أو إِمام مضى ولم

    ينله أذى أو لم ينل مقت ساخر

    What prophet or imam has passed and not

    Been harmed or earned the contempt of mockers?

  17. أما قيل للمختار إِنك كاهن

    وأنت كذوب ساحر أيّ ساحر

    Was it not said to the Chosen "You are a sorcerer, a charlatan

    You are a liar, a magician, O magician!"

  18. ومالك كنز لا ولا بيت زخرف

    ولا جنة بل أنت أوهى العشائر

    You own no treasure or ornamented house

    No garden - rather, you are the lowliest of clans

  19. فما ضره هاذاك في ذات ربه

    كذالك هذا كله غير ضائر

    Yet this did not harm him in his Lord's being

    So too all this is not harmful

  20. خليلي إِني قد نزلت بمنزل

    كريم وفي قوم كرام العناصر

    My friend, I have come to stay in a noble place

    Among honorable people, the best of clans

  21. بني نعمة السادات أولاد أشتر

    ذرى مجمع في المدحجين الأكابر

    The children of Naim, sons of Ashtar

    An assemblage of the greatest eulogizers

  22. وقد نهضوا فيما طلبت وشمروا

    وما احتجبوا عني بثوب المعاذر

    And they rose to what I sought and girded themselves

    Not making excuses by the garb of avoidance

  23. وإني إِلى أن يفتح اللّه بالذي

    أرجيه فيهم عنهم غير صارد

    And I will continue until God opens by what

    I hope for, then I will cease to censure them

  24. فشدَّا على بكريكما وتروّحا

    عشاً واستدلاّ بالنجوم الزواهر

    So set out to your two excellent ones and wander

    To their settlement, guided by brilliant stars

  25. إِلى أن تنيخا بالذي شاع ذكره

    وعم نداه كل بادٍ وحاضر

    Until you alight at the one whose fame has spread

    And whose aid encompasses every land and home

  26. أبي الفضل عباس بن معن بن حوشب

    أخي الجود مولى الجود سلطان عامر

    Abu Al-Fadl Abbas ibn Mu'in ibn Hushab

    My brother in generosity, master of rulers, Amir

  27. ومدّا إِليه بالكتاب وألقيا

    إليه تحيتي معاً وسرائري

    Extend to him my letter, and convey

    To him my greetings and thoughts

  28. فإن أبا الفضل الغداة هو الذي

    تأملته للنائبات الحوافر

    For Abu Al-Fadl is the one I hoped for

    In uncertain times and grave dangers

  29. أبا الفضل إِني لم أقم لرياسة

    وملك ولا واللّه شأن التفاخر

    Abu Al-Fadl, I did not stand for leadership

    Or kingship - no, by God, matters of pride

  30. أبا الفضل إِن الفضل أفضله الذي

    يكون لوجه اللّه فانصر ووازر

    Abu Al-Fadl, the greatest merit is that

    Done for God's sake - so give victory and aid

  31. أبا الفضل مات الدين وانطمس الهدى

    وصارت بيوت اللّه مأوى المزامر

    Abu Al-Fadl, religion has died and guidance faded

    And God's houses became dens for frivolity

  32. أبا الفضل شهر الصوم أضحى نهاره

    لشرب خمور واعتناق شواطر

    Abu Al-Fadl, the fasting month has become days

    For drinking wine and embracing singing girls

  33. أبا الفضل أركان الحجيج تعطلت

    وعطل ذكر اللّه عند المشاعر

    Abu Al-Fadl, the pillars of pilgrims are neglected

    And God's remembrance abandoned at the holy sites

  34. أَبا الفضل رايات الأخائر نكسّت

    وأضحت سلاطين الوغى في المقابر

    Abu Al-Fadl, the banners of wrongdoing are raised

    And tyrants of corruption lie in wait

  35. أبا الفضل من تروى من النوم عينه

    وقد أحدث الغاوون سبي الحرائر

    Abu Al-Fadl, whoever sleeps while innovators

    Have enslaved free women stirs no eyelid

  36. أبا الفضل أبرزن العذارى حوسراً

    وغودرن في الأسواق مع كل تاجر

    Abu Al-Fadl, chaste women were brought out as booty

    And auctioned in markets to every trader

  37. ألا ربّ بيضاً كالعزالة بضَّة

    مقبَّلها كالدر كحل النواظر

    By the Lord of maidens white as seclusion, their kiss

    Like pearls, kohl of their eyes like stars

  38. لها عنق سام وفرع مرجَّل

    أحم على اللبات جم الغدائر

    With smooth neck and wavy hair

    Crimson on bright cheeks

  39. أذاعوا بها للبيع شاهت وجوههم

    ودارت عليهم دائرات الدوائر

    They were put up for sale, their faces downcast

    As the circles of fate turned against them

  40. فقم يا ابن معن للمهيمن ناصراً

    وشمر عن الساقين فضل المآزر

    So rise, O Ibn Mu'in, as supporter for the All-Powerful

    And roll up your sleeves - the merit of the honored

  41. لعلك تلقى القاصرات وتتكي

    على سرر الجنات فوق العباقر

    Perhaps you may meet the captive women and find rest

    Upon the thrones of Heaven, atop high seats

  42. فليس كنصر اللّه للمرء عدة

    كما أن تقوى اللّه خير الذخائر

    For nothing aids a man like God's victory

    Just as nothing surpasses consciousness of God in worth

  43. ودونكها مثل المبارد لو جرت

    على قضب جذت كهام البواتر

    With you is the like of seasoned warriors, who if

    Drawn on spear shafts, would ignite like lightning

  44. تزيد فؤاد الأريحيّ نباهة

    وتشحذ أفكار الرجال النحارر

    Increasing the perspicacity of the sage Arrahi

    And sharpening the minds of the heroic men

  45. وصلى على المختار للوحي أحمد

    إله البرايا بالعشي والأباكر

    And send prayers upon the Chosen One for revelation, Ahmad

    God of creation, in the evenings and dawns
