O fate, you have withered the branch of my youth,

And scattered my life into wandering nights.

Alas! Can what has passed, O fate, return?

Or does everything I lose never come back?

Why do you blame me when you've become hateful

To be near you? Or is there no eternity for what endures?

I love a youth that does not fade,

A great eternal kingdom that does not perish.

And ninety houris in tents surrounded

By palm trees and vines with dangling clusters.

Virgins, if I desire them, then return them

Virgins as they were, despite the envier.

All else is but the patience of a moment,

And footsteps crossing the barren valley.

When the horses panic, blood flows,

And the fallen are gathered from the battlefield.

The commoners are certain of the truth

That the loyal one among them is peerless.

It is death, if I do not hurl myself towards it,

Throwing me from behind with spears of my hunters.

Excellent! By God, we have not failed the young man

If he dies with nothing between us but distance.

I do not care, after my entrails are spilled,

Whether I become food for birds or jackals.

And you, Abu Abdullah, messengers have come

To me from you, like continuous lightning.

I thanked you for them as long as I lived, and your call

Delighted me when you called, O glorious one!

My joy is not for the wording, but for what it indicates -

The will, manifested in poetry's composition.

Leave off praising me, and do not cease

To awaken the faithful - give support!

Do not rest in your world except as one prepared,

With swift pacing, no excuse for one sitting.

And bless as God and His creation were blessed,

Ahmad the Chosen One, the ornament of sanctuaries.
