ألا كيف طاب النوم بين الولائد
وطاب الثوى بين الحسان الخرائد
Alas! How sweet was sleep amid the newborns,
And rest amid the lovely gazelles.
وقد زال ركن الدين وانطمس الهدى
وجذَّت عرى الاسلام يال الأماجد
The pillar of religion is gone, guidance is erased,
The bonds of Islam are torn, O landmarks of glory!
فلانعمت عين ترى الدين مدحراً
وتطعم تلك العين طيب المراقد
No eye finds joy in seeing religion routed,
Nor does that eye find rest in the tomb.
ولا نظرت عين سروراً ودينها
قميٌّ فهل من أريحيّ مساعد
No eye has looked with joy when its religion
Is feeble. Is there any helper from Al-Rih?
رأى الحق مقهوراً فقام بثاره
وشمر عن ساق كتشمير والدي
Truth saw itself defeated, so it took revenge,
And that rolled up its sleeve like an angry lion.
فذاك الذي نبهنه عن جهاده
شؤن رزايا مع أمور كوائد
The one whom we roused from his holy war
Is the business of soft living along with braiding girls.
سلي هل ترى إذ عضه الدهر هل ونت
عزائمه أم شد عند الشدائد
Ask him, do you see if time wounds him
Whether he strengthens his resolve or yields in times of crisis?
أما امتحنته المبطلون بحربهم
فلم يستكن للمبطلين الأعاند
Or have the heretics tested him in war,
Yet he does not yield to the hostile disbelievers?
ولكنه أيام خانوا عهوده
أَذاقهم كأساً كسمّ الأساود
Rather, when they betrayed their pacts with him
He made them drink a bitter poisonous drink.
تسربل سربال المهابة وارتدى
ردا الجود يا للّه من قرم ماجد
He dressed in the garb of awe and wore
The mantle of generosity - O Allah, what a glorious lion!
نشا في طلاب المجد والجود والعلا
فحاز المعالي واكتساب المحامد
He grew up seeking glory, generosity, and knowledge,
So he attained high position and earned praise.
سمت للعلا هماته وتناولت
ذرى المجد من مجرى بروج الفراقد
His ambitions aspired to the heights,
And he attained the stars of glory.
فلو ساعدت أيامه بحر عزمه
لنال الثريا مدراً للأماجد
If his days had aided the sea of his determination,
He would have attained endless glory.
فيا والداي خذها ودونك إِنها
محبرة ما مثلها في القصائد
O my father, take it and keep it close,
It is of great value, unmatched in poetry.
جعلت معانيها فوائد حكمة
لكل لبيب طالب للفوائد
I have made its meanings beneficial wisdom
For any understanding person seeking benefits.
