1. أتتني وأعلاها قناع مزعفر

    وفي فرعها الميال عطر مبخر

    She came to me, her face veiled in saffron,

    With the scent of incense in her swaying branch.

  2. مخلخلة خطارة في رياضها

    وحلتها والدمع كالطل يقطر

    Stirring gracefully through her gardens,

    Adorned in her garments as tears dripped like dew.

  3. تعاتبني في هجر دار هجرتها

    وصرم لذاذات الشباب وتزجر

    She chided me for abandoning the home I'd forsaken,

    And the pleasures and charms of youth she did forbid.

  4. فقلت لها يا خود ما فيك معتب

    ومثلك لا يقلى ويجفى ويحقر

    I said to her, "My dear, do not blame me,

    For one like you should not be burned, dried up, or scorned.

  5. ولكن لدى الرحمان آي وهل أتى

    تبكي بوصف القاصرات المفكر

    Rather, turn to the Merciful - does He not come

    To weep at the plight of pensive maidens?

  6. وما قاصرات الطرف عن قصر طرفها

    ولكن عنها الطرف بالنور يقصر

    For it is not the maidens whose sight is lacking,

    But sight itself falls short before their light.

  7. وإن قيل هن الزاهرات فإنما

    لزهرتهن الشمس تكبو وتحسر

    And if it's said they are the blossoms, then

    The sun itself bows down and yields to their bloom.

  8. وإن قيل يحكين الشموس وبدرها

    ومثل نجوم الليل فالحور أنور

    And if it's said they resemble suns and moons,

    The houris are more radiant than the stars of night.

  9. وقد قال كالياقوت ذو العز والعلا

    وكاللؤلؤ المكنون واللّه أكبر

    The Exalted said they are like rubies,

    Like hidden pearls - and Allah is Most Great.

  10. وفيهن نضرات النعيم وريه

    كذلك من في روضة الخلد يحبر

    In them are the delights of bliss and meadows

    Like those in the Gardens of Eternity they enjoy.

  11. تسورن والأزواج فيها أساوراً

    وهل في جنان الخلد إلا مسور

    They enter wearing bracelets like their spouses,

    For are not all in the Gardens of Eternity paired?

  12. وعاليهن الحلي فيها وسندس

    واستبرق من فاخر الخز أخضر

    Their jewelry is exquisite, made of silk

    And brocade, and green silk of the finest sort.

  13. إِذا خطرت منهن رجراجة زهي

    لخطرتها المحبور إِذ هي تبختر

    When one saunters, scintillating gracefully,

    Her anklets tinkle as she sways and struts.

  14. ويلحقها لحظ العيون صبابة

    إذا طلعت فوق الأرائك تنظر

    Eyes pursue her like stars in the dusk

    When she emerges above the couch to look out.

  15. وإن قعدت فوق الأرائك واتكت

    على سرر العقيان والوجه مسفر

    Reclining upon cushions, resting her cheek,

    Her unveiled face glows with ever-youthful charm.

  16. وعانقها المحبور ثم بلذة

    وشرخ شباب دائم لا يتبر

    Her lover embraces her, then with delight

    Sips from a cup of never-ending prime.

  17. ونازعها كاسا هناك يزينها

    من الخمر والألبان والأري جوهر

    He offers her a goblet embellished

    With wine, milk, honey, and ruby essence,

  18. ومن سلسبيل والرحيق ختامه

    مع الروح والريحان مسك مكفَّر

    With Salsabil and syrup as its seal,

    With spirit, basil, and perfumed musk.

  19. وأنهارها تجري فتسقي رياضها

    عيون بنضاخ لديها تفجر

    Rivers run through it, watering its gardens,

    Gushing springs which effervescently spout.

  20. وثم قوارير وأكواب فضة

    وثم صحاف التبر كل مصور

    Therein are vessels and cups of silver,

    Platters engraved with every sort of figure.

  21. وفيها فنون الفاكهات كثيرة

    ومما اشتهوا من لحم طير تخيروا

    It has abundant fruits of every kind,

    And any meat of bird they might desire.

  22. يطوف بهذا ثم هذا مخلد

    عليهم من الولدان بالحسن يفخر

    About this one, then that, strolls one immortalized,

    Glorious with handsome boys at his beck and call.

  23. ومد عليهم ظل نعمى وذللت

    عليهم قطوف الروض والروض مزهر

    The shade of bounty covers them, and branches

    Of the garden rain down upon them in their bower.

  24. إذا ما اشتهوا شيأ دعوا ثم دعوة

    بسبحانك اللهم صوتاً فيحضر

    Whene’er they wish for something, they need only say

    "Glory to You, O God," and it appears before them.

  25. وفي الجنة الزهراء ما لم تحط به

    عيون وآذان ولا الفكر يخطر

    In the verdant Garden are things beyond

    What eyes or ears perceived or thoughts occurred.

  26. ولم يبن فيها من سرير وغرفة

    سوى كن فكانت فهي بالنور تزهر

    No thrones or chambers were built in it,

    Only "Be," and it became, blossoming in light.

  27. وإن لم تكن من فضة وزبرجد

    وتبر ومسك فهي أبهى وأنور

    Even if not of silver, chrysolite,

    Amber, or musk, it's more resplendent and bright.

  28. بها البشر والانعام والملك والبقا

    وكل سرور صفوه لا يكدر

    In it are humankind, cattle, angels, and eternity,

    And every utmost joy that is pure and unspoiled.

  29. وليس بها غلّ وبؤس وشقوة

    وسقم وتنغيص وموت ومحشر

    There is no wrong, misery, grief or woe,

    No sickness, blight, death, or resurrection.

  30. كمثل حياة الدهر تخدع من بها

    وتصرع من يهوى هواها وتسخر

    Unlike worldly life that dupes those in it,

    Felling those who crave it, though it mocks and jests,

  31. ومن لم يتبرها ويبدر بها بدت

    بتتبيره والكيس الطب يبدر

    Whoever does not renounce it sees

    In his failing to do so, loss - the wise take heed.

  32. وما هي إِلا ساعة لمعرج

    فيربح فيها أو يخيب ويخسر

    For it lasts but an hour, just a chance

    To profit or lose, succeed or fail.

  33. فإن تعذري للهجر ألفاً موالفاً

    فللعاشق المشتاق للحور أعذر

    If you find it hard to abandon passion,

    Then for the enamored seeking houris there's excuse.

  34. إذا اقتحم الحرب العوان بنفسه

    وكرّ كما كرّ الهمام الغظنفر

    When one dives headlong into perilous combat

    And attacks like a daring, legendary knight,

  35. سويد الفتى الجلد الذي لم يكن له

    إذا اشتدت الهيجاء عنها تأخر

    Excuse the gallant whose nature disdains

    In the raging battle to retreat in fright.

  36. سلي عنه في وادي بذوقة هل سطا

    وكان له بطن المسيلة محضر

    Ask about him in Buzaqah's valley - did he charge

    With his drawn sword, and was the valley his theater?

  37. وهل كرَّ بين الصف والصف جانح

    فغادر من لاقاه في الدم يعثر

    Did he plunge between rank after rank,

    Leaving in the blood those who would him deter?

  38. وكيف سطا في الأربعين عشية

    على عسكر لم يلقه قط عسكر

    How he charged at dusk against armies

    The likes of which no army had met before,

  39. يكاد يذم الخلق عند اختبارهم

    ويحمد ذاك المرتضى حين يخبر

    Nearly blaming all people when tested,

    But praising the Chosen One when experience bore.

  40. وما ابن يمين أن يفوز بنجدة

    وإن عظمت أسبابها يتكبر

    It is not the right hand's place to gain victory

    However great the means at its disposal.

  41. هو الطيب الطب الرضي الطاهر الذي

    يجلي دجاها أيها المتخير

    He is the Good, the Healer, the Pleased, the Pure

    Who dispels the gloom - O you who make your choice!

  42. فيا ابن يمين أنت أنت ستانها

    ومعقلها الصعب المنيع الموعر

    O Son of Yamani, you are its support,

    Its formidable, unassailable, rocky bastion.

  43. فثق واستعن باللّه ذي العرش واعتصم

    وقم عجلاً قد حان حان المثور

    Have confidence, seek God's help, take refuge in Him,

    Arise now, the time for victory has arrived!

  44. ولا تتخذ غير المهيمن ناصراً

    فليس سوى الرحمان بالنصر يقدر

    Do not take other than the Guardian as your ally,

    For none but the Merciful has power to give victory.

  45. إذا شاء للاسلام عزاً أتى به

    وأنف الذي لا يصحب الحق أصغر

    When He wills glory for Islam, He brings it about,

    And the nose of one disloyal to truth is humbled.

  46. فشمّر لها واعلم بأنك مقبل

    وأن الذي يهوى خلافك مدبر

    Prepare for it, knowing you are advancing

    While those passionately opposed are in retreat.

  47. حويت بها الدارين طراً وما حوى

    سوى النار والعار التي سوف تسعر

    In it you gain both worlds in full - none ever gained

    Except Hellfire and disgrace which shall blaze.

  48. وما أنت إلا قد أويت بعروة

    من العز وثقى والمهيمن ينصر

    You hold to a bond of honor and loyalty,

    And the Guardian is your dismantling foe's vanquisher.

  49. ودونك مثل التاج تاجاً من العلا

    ولكن تاج اللبس يفنى ويدثر

    Before you lies a crown of glory,

    Unlike crowns of worldly rule that fade away.

  50. تنحلَّها طبّ مهمّ مصممّ

    أشمّ ممرّ مستمر مشمر

    It will be dissolved by a healer emboldened,

    A perceiver, reminding, persisting, prepared,

  51. له عزمة في الحق تغدو حياته

    وإن طال عمر النفس والعمر أقصر

    Resolute toward truth - his life each morn renews,

    Though long in years, still ephemeral man's lifespan.

  52. ولم يلق من حرب العدا عشر عشر ما

    لقي المصطفى الهادي النذير المبشر

    He did not face one tenth of what was faced

    By the Guiding Warner, the Prophet sent to deliver good tidings.

  53. وصلى عليه اللّه ذو المجد والعلا

    مدى الدهر ما نادى المنادي المكبر

    May Allah, Glorious and Exalted, bless him

    As long as the years, when the caller calls people to prayer.

  54. صلاة وتسليماً أرجي ثوابه

    إذا ما قبور العالمين تبعثر

    I hope for its reward when graves everywhere

    Are strewn about on Judgment's advent.
