1. خليلي إِني بالملامة وازع

    وبالعذل إِن العذل للحر رادع

    My friend, I am averse to blame

    And to harshness, for harshness deters the free man.

  2. وما ترك ذمي للخذول بواسع

    ولكن تعظيمي على ذاك واسع

    I do not permit blame upon my reputation,

    But my esteem for that is broad.

  3. ألم تشهدوا أني مجد مجرد

    وكل الذي بايعت بالأمس خانع

    Did you not witness that my glory is pure?

    And all those I pledged allegiance to yesterday are obedient.

  4. ألم تشهدوا أني مجد مجرد

    حسام على ما كنت بالامس قاطع

    Did you not witness that my glory is pure?

    A sword upon what I was cutting yesterday.

  5. أقمت لهم حولاً ونصفاً مرجيَّا

    أقول غداً يأتي من القوم طالع

    I stood up to them for a year or so hoping

    I say tomorrow the people will have a prominent one.

  6. إِذا القوم لا قوم يريدون أمرهم

    لحق ولا منهم له من ينازع

    When the people have no people wanting their affairs

    Rightfully without contention from them.

  7. أقول لأهل الدين إِذ صار دينهم

    يتيماً ولم تسفك عليه المدامع

    I say to the people of religion when their religion

    Became an orphan and no tears were shed over it.

  8. ألا أيها الساهون كيف استطعتم

    رقاداً وحولي كل يوم وقائع

    Oh you heedless ones, how could you

    Slumber while around me daily events unfold?

  9. ولكنكم من قبل كنتم ولاتنا

    فأسلمتمونا حين لحن القواطع

    But you were before our deputies

    Who surrendered us when the critics spoke rashly.

  10. وكنتم كقوم لاعبين تعاقدوا

    للعب وباتوا عنه والكل هاجع

    You were like a frivolous people who contracted

    To play, but forgot it while all were asleep.

  11. حسبتم عقود اللّه لعباً وعهده

    ومن بعد هذا شدة وزعازع

    You reckoned God's covenants as play and forgot His covenant

    And after this, adversity and tremors.

  12. هدمتم منار الدين لما خضعتم

    كأن لم تشيده الشراة المصادع

    You demolished the minaret of religion when you submitted

    As if the masons did not erect it with their hammers.

  13. فيا أيها الأطفال هل تنظروا إلى

    فعال شيوخ حنكتها المقاذع

    So O children, do you look upon

    The deeds of elders honed by experts?

  14. حسبتم بأن الذل فيكم لأنكم

    تظنون أن الذل للعف رافع

    You thought humiliation was upon you

    Because you think humiliation is for the chaste.

  15. أبى اللّه أنا يال عمار ياسر

    نقد صعاب الهام والنقع ساطع

    God refused, I am not a protector, O Ammar, O Yasir

    Ready money for the noble and ringing swords.

  16. وهل قعدت منا على الضيم صبية

    وهل كان منا بالمذلة قانع

    Did our virgins ever sit oppressed?

    Was one of us ever content with humiliation?

  17. وهل عاش منا في القديم غضنفر

    على دينه إلا كميّ مدافع

    Did Ghadanfar live among us in old

    Defending his religion except as a protector?

  18. لحا اللّه من تدعو إلى الضعف نفسه

    وإن كان فرداً وهو للّه طائع

    God curse whoever's soul calls to weakness

    Even if alone, obedient to God.

  19. فليس ضعيف القوم إلا سفيههم

    وإن كان نطقاً فهو في الحرب قاطع

    The weak of the people are only their foolish ones

    Even if eloquent, in war a cutter.

  20. خليلي قولاً للذين تمسكنوا

    وصارو كمثل النعل هل لا يراجعوا

    My friend, say to those who held fast

    And became like sandals - will they not reconsider

  21. ويقتحموا الهيجاء للّه طاعة

    فإن امام العدل فيها مقاطع

    And plunge into the fray for God's obedience?

    For the imam of justice among them is a cutter.

  22. أعينوا اماماً بايعتكم يمينه

    ولا تسمعوه الشتم فالشتم قاذع

    Aid an imam whose hand you pledged allegiance to

    And do not listen to insults, for insults are hurtful.

  23. فإن قلتم زاغ الامام عن الهدى

    فليس على وجه الامام مقانع

    If you say the imam deviated from guidance

    He does not accept insults upon his face.

  24. أقمتم حجاجاً واضحاً لحجاجه

    فإن أفلجته بالحجاج الجمائع

    You presented clear arguments for his arguments -

    If you refuted him with penetrating arguments,

  25. وعاد منيباً عدتم تحت أمره

    وإلا فحد السيف والدين ناصع

    And he turned repentant, you returned under his command.

    Otherwise, the sword and prominent religion.

  26. وإن كان ما عزت على الرسل دعوة

    ولا خلق إلا بما هو باضع

    If calling people to the truth was difficult for messengers

    And no people but with fighting.

  27. فمالكم أن تخذلوه وتقعدوا

    وبين يديه للانام مصارع

    Why do you abandon him and sit

    With slaughter for the people before him?

  28. فإن قلتم ها ذاك فرض كفاية

    فقد كان هذا القول لوم لم تبايعوا

    If you say "that is an optional duty"

    This saying would blame you - you did not pledge allegiance.

  29. ولو لم يكن سيف الامام مجرداً

    يروح ويغدو في البلاد مواقع

    Had the imam's sword not been bared

    Coming and going in the lands with fighting,

  30. وحجتكم بالشغل إذ قلتم لنا

    ديار وأولاد بها ومنافع

    Your argument of "we have homes and children,

    Properties and benefits"

  31. أما للحروريين كان منازل

    وأهل وأولاد بها ومزارع

    Did the Hashemites not have dwellings

    And family and children with properties and farms?

  32. كذا قالت الأعراب من قبل قولكم

    لقد شغلتنا الناعمات البوارع

    The Bedouins before said your words:

    "The delicate beauties have preoccupied us."

  33. خذلتم ورب البيت من كان يرتجي

    يرد بكم ضعف العدا ويصارع

    You abandoned, and the Lord of the house was hoping

    To restore the weakness of the foe and battle.

  34. خذلتم وقلتم مثل ما قال فتية

    لموسى ولمع البيض في الهام واقع

    You abandoned and said like the youths

    Said to Moses when the white shone on the mounts

  35. ألا قم فقاتلهم وربك إننا

    ضعاف وإن القوم قوم مشاجع

    "Go, fight them, your Lord suffices, we

    Are weak and the people are hardy."

  36. فذمهم ربي وأتهمهم بها

    وسماهم الفساق والفسق قاذع

    So my Lord blamed them and accused them

    Calling them wicked, and wickedness is hurtful.

  37. وفي الذكر واللّه العظيم دلائل

    تذم أولي الخذلان لو كان سامع

    In the mention - and God is Great - are proofs

    Blaming masters of abandonment, if one listens.

  38. وإلا فإني أشهد اللّه فاشهدوا

    بأني لحبل الكفر للّه قاطع

    Otherwise, I testify to God, so witness

    That I cut the rope of disbelief for God.

  39. فإن تقدحوا للدين زنداً فإنني

    لذلك ما دمتم مدى الدهر طامع

    If you defame the religion, I will be

    For that, as long as you live, hoping.

  40. مبيع لنفسي منفق لحياتها

    لمن كل مخلوق له الدهر خاضع

    I am sold to myself, spending my life

    For whom all creation is subservient.

  41. فخذها فلا عيب بها غير أنها

    تهش إليها للسماع المسامع

    Take it, without flaw except

    It inclines to it to hear praise,

  42. ويصدر عنها كل جبس منافق

    إذا أنشدت وازوَّر عنها المخادع

    And every hypocrisy issues from it

    When it is recited and the deceitful pretend.

  43. واختم قولي بالصلاة مسلماً

    على أحمد ما حادث الموت قاطع

    I conclude my words as a Muslim

    Praying upon Ahmad as long as death cuts off,

  44. وما شيعت للنار فيها جنازة

    وأخرى إِلى الفردوس والخلق تابع

    And no funeral is escorted to the Fire

    While another to Paradise and creation is following.
