أديراها على الزَّهْرِ المندَّى
فَحُكْمُ الصبحِ في الظلماءِ ماضِ
Pass it round, you two, among the dew-drenched blossoms;
for dawn’s decree against the darkness is inexorable.
وكأسُ الراحِ تنظرُ عن حَبابٍ
يَنوبُ لنا عن الحَدَقِ المِراض
The wine cup gazes out through bubbles
that stand in for languishing eyes;
وما غَرَبَتْ نجومُ الأفْقِ لكنْ
نُقِلْنَ من السماءِ إلى الرياض
the horizon’s stars have not set, but
have been carried from the sky into the gardens.
