A stream of tears poured from the rainclouds’ eyes,
while a dove sang from the treetops.
So pluck delight in the garden of desires,
amid sweet basil and wine for the morning draught,
beneath a sky that sprinkled the earth’s cheek
with tears it let fall, leaving it glistening wet.
The lightning across its far reaches seemed
a jet of naphtha fired by the rainbow.
