O morning light beneath the dust,
Are those patterns above your cheeks or a garden embroidered by skill?
The temple appears in it like gravel.
I do not know if the glances of the eye avoid me or the sting of that cobra.
By my father, you are cruel, you have not ceased
Throwing arrows that do not miss.
You have wounded a fluttering heart that burns
Like tinder in my trembling hand.
Lord of a night whose darkness is endless
Nothing but a blanket made of plucked wool.
Swimming in the turbulence of tears but
I do not complain of the anguish of thirst.
And the lightening of the night in its radiance
Like swords in the palms of the Abyssinians.
And God's sky reveals a moon
Bright and young like the Qurayshi boy.
There is no difference in their splendor
When they rise in the dust.
Except that the horizon is inhabited by this one
And the precinct of the temple by that one.
