بأبي في الحبِّ معسولُ اللَّمى

عنبريُّ النَّشرِ ريميُّ الحَدَقْ

By my father, in love sweet of union

Ambergris of scent, pure of gaze

فاترُ الطرفِ غريرٌ فاتنٌ

بارعُ الوصفِ منيرٌ كالفَلَقْ

Sluggish of glance, a captivating charmer

Skillful of description, bright as dawn

يفضحُ البدرَ كمالاً إنْ بدا

والدُّمى العُفْرَ جَمالاً إنْ رَمَقْ

He shames the full moon in perfection if unveiled

And the dark-eyed houries in beauty if beheld

أطلعتْ خجلتُهُ في خدِّهِ

شَفَقَاً في فَلَقٍ تحتَ غَسَقْ

I looked at him shyly on his cheek

Blushing within a cleft beneath the dusk
