1. وآنسةٍ زارتْ معَ الليلِ مَضْجَعي

    فعانقتُ غُصْنَ البان منها إلى الفجرِ

    A maiden visited me with the night in my bed

    I embraced the branch of ebony from her till dawn

  2. أُسائِلُها أينَ الوشاحُ وقد غَدَتْ

    مُعَطَّلةً منه مُعَطَّرةَ النشر

    I asked her where is the scarf though it became

    Free of it, perfumed with basil

  3. فقالتْ وأَوْمَتْ للسِّوارِ نَقَلْتُهُ

    إلى مِعْصَمي لمّا تقلقلَ في خصري

    She said, and gestured to the bracelet - I moved it

    To my wrist when it dangled around my waist
