نُشِرَ الوردُ في الغدير وقد در
رَجَهُ بالهبوب نشْرُ الرياح
The roses bloomed in the stream as they shed
Their petals, blown by the winds’ gentle tread
مثل درعِ الكميِّ مزَّقها الطعنُ
فسالتْ بهِ دماءُ الجراح
Like a coat of mail rent by thrusts of the spear
Their blood flowed out from the wounds they bore.
