وافتْ به غفلةُ الرقيبِ

والنجمُ قد مالَ للغروبِ

The negligence of the guard granted him access,

And the star leaned towards sunset.

سكرانَ قد هزّتِ الحميَّا

منه قضيباً على كثيب

Intoxicated, the protective one swayed,

Shaking a rod over a dune.

يعثرُ في ذيله فيحكي

عَثْرَةَ عينيه بالقلوب

He stumbles on his robes and relates

The stumbling of his eyes to hearts.

تالله لو حازتِ الحميَّا

ما حاز من بهجةٍ وطيب

By God, if the protective one attained

What he attained of joy and fragrance!

دنا إليها الهلالُ حتى

قبَّل في كفِّها الخضيبِ

The crescent approached her until

It kissed her bloody palm.
