1. تَولَّى الحِمامُ بظَبْي الخُدُورِ

    وفازَ الرَّدى بالغَزَالِ الغَرِيرِ

    The dove has turned away from the lovely doe

    And time has claimed the graceful gazelle

  2. وكُنْتُ ملِلْتُك لا عن قِلىً

    ولا عن فَسادٍ جرى في ضَمِيري

    I did not tire of you out of boredom

    Nor because of any corruption within my heart

  3. كمِثْلِ ملالِ الفَتَى للنَّعِيمِ

    إِذا دام فيه وحال السُّرُورِ

    It was like a young man tiring of pleasure

    When joy in him becomes constant
