1. Who will do me justice against my love for my oppressor,

    when, in love, my adversary is my judge?

  2. I never knew what passion was

    until I was afflicted by one without mercy.

  3. The hard-hearted one sleeps amid

    the ease of slumber, while I pass the night love-lost.

  4. And among the wonders is to see

    one wide awake, captive to one asleep.

  5. O my slayer—were they not enough,

    the swords within your eyelids?

  6. They reproached me for you, yet I have no

    ear for what reproachers say.

  7. The envier’s blame for sup—

    porting al-ʿAmīd Abū al-Ghanāʾim.
