    رعية لملك

    Than a subject to a king

  3. ان تأمري تطع وان

    تدعى بها تلبك

    If you command, it obeys, and if

    You call it, it yearns

  4. لم تسترين طلعة

    فيها حلى مهتكي

    You did not hide your radiance

    In it are jewels that dazzle

  5. مهلك بي يا مطلبي

    دونك الف مهلك

    You destroy me, my desire

    Apart from you, destruction upon destruction

  6. فان بعدت تحرقي

    وان دنوت تفتكي

    If you are distant, you burn me

    And if you are near, you unravel me

  7. وان صبرت لم اطق

    وان خضعت تزمكي

    If I am patient, I cannot endure

    And if I surrender, you complete me

  8. وان طرقت خفية

    اهلك بين اهلك

    And if I seek in secret

    You destroy me among my people

  9. اني لطير مهجتي

    الخلال من ذا الشرك

    I am a bird whose ambition

    Is liberation from this bondage

  10. عيش الخلي قد صفا

    يا قلب فاسل واترك

    The life of seclusion has cleared

    Oh heart, so ask to be left

  11. واقصد بنا سبيل من

    راح خليا واسلك

    And take us on the path of those

    Who went freely and tread

  12. ما من يبيت شاكرا

    كمن يبيت يشتكي

    He who sleeps grateful

    Is not like one who sleeps complaining

  13. فاخلع على العشاق ثو

    ب جسمك المنهك

    So take off the garb of your

    Weary body for the sake of the lovers

  14. وانتهز الفرصة قب

    ل فوتها واستدرك

    And seize the opportunity

    Before you miss it and make amends

  15. هذا الربيع مقبل

    يصحب آل برمك

    This arriving spring

    Brings shackles of hail

  16. يكسو لاعطاف الربا

    غلائلا لم تحك

    It adorns the hillsides with

    Locks of hair never combed

  17. وحل في نحورها

    عقود در الحبك

    And it hangs from their necks

    Necklaces of pearls woven

  18. حتى كأنها بها

    مجلسنا في الفلك

    As if it were, with them

    Our gathering in the highest heaven

  19. والنرجس اصطف وما

    احسن صف الملك

    The narcissus lines up so straight

    Like the formation of kings

  20. زبرجد في فضة

    في ذهب لم يسبك

    Emerald in silver

    Gold that was never melted

  21. يرنو يلحظ عاشق

    بمدمع الطل بكي

    The lover gazes with eyes

    Tearful with longing

  22. والورد من سكرته

    على الغصون متكي

    The roses in their drunkenness

    Lean on the branches

  23. يمسك اذيال الصبا

    بكفه الممسك

    The morning breeze holds

    The train of his dress in its fist

  24. كوجنة العذراء ان

    قلت لها هيت لك

    Like the gown of a virgin

    If I said to her, turn to me

  25. والنهر في يد النس

    يم كالقبا المفرك

    The river flows from the hand

    Of the breeze like untied braids

  26. والمغصون حوله

    دلائل المنهمك

    And the branches around it

    Are tokens of one immersed in love

  27. القت شباك الظل

    فاصطاد خيال السمك

    It casts the nets of shade

    And catches the fish of imagination

  28. والاقحوان ضاحك

    بمبسم لم يضحك

    The partridges laugh

    With a smile never laughed before

  29. والياسمين عرفه

    الغض له عرف ذكي

    The jasmine’s bitterness is known

    To the tender youth

  30. والطير في مغرد

    وواله مرتبك

    The birds sing lyrically

    Infatuated and disturbed

  31. في روضة كأنها

    وصف الامير منجك

    In a garden as if describing

    The Prince Munjik’s estate

  32. من حار في اوصافه

    كل لبيب وذكي

    He who is confused by its description

    Is clever and intelligent

  33. بحر وفيه بالثنا

    السننا كالفلك

    An ocean in which like ships

    Sailing like stars

  34. ترى العيون عنده

    البحار مثل البرك

    Eyes see in it

    Seas like ponds

  35. له اكف مسكت

    مسته غير ممسك

    It has palms that grasp

    Untouched, ungrasping

  36. تفتك في امواله

    فتك المها في النسك

    They ravage its wealth

    Ravaging without any goods

  37. وفكره اهدى لنا

    وشى بلاد اليزبك

    Its thoughts guided us

    And traversed the lands of Gazeer

  38. من كل بيت يحتوي

    ابنة كسرى الملك

    Every house contains

    Daughters of Kisra the king

  39. مشت به لاهية

    عن نهدها المفكك

    Swaying coquettishly

    Baring cleavage loose and bare

  40. فالدر ملء مسمعي

    فيه وملء الحنك

    Pearls fill my hearing

    And the cavity of my jaws

  41. ملكت رقى سيدي

    افديك من مملك

    You captured the pillar of my master

    I sacrifice myself for your kingdom

  42. ادركت كل فائت

    وفد كل مدرك

    You attained all that was missed

    And compensated all loss

  43. لك المعالي وعلى

    الفضل ضمان الدرك

    To you belong the heights, and about

    Virtue, there is no doubt
