1. As for parting, on its very day I am all fear.

    For its sake I have lain awake—if only sleeplessness could avail.

  2. Did their departing camel-litters race my streaming eye,

    or do the tears race alongside the departing litters?

  3. Al-ʿAqīq barred me from solace, and there became clear

    to me at Tūḍiḥ roads branching from passion’s path.

  4. Were it not for the breeze the winds bear,

    when the horizon grows fragrant with the sanctuary’s scent,

  5. I would not know that the tribe’s tents had encamped

    in Najd, nor would the horizon toward the sanctuary keep visiting me.

  6. There is nothing in the camel-litters but the sun, rising;

    and nothing in my heart but longing and sleeplessness.
