I have freed myself from the toil of enmity and slander,
And arrived at the abode of stability and safety.
O eyelids slain by the tears of sorrow,
Awaken, for I have awakened from sorrow.
By God, the day I bid farewell to my companions
As a recalcitrant youth filled with regret over my years,
How many a Juthur and Ghadhnafir plant
Will water the soil with the excess of their sorrowful tears?
It is not because I have left behind the ashes of your land
But because I feared burial in it.
I passed by Sowis, and the stars were as if
They were lit by my thoughts and saddled by my mind.
I traveled from the full moon of darkness with strength
In the company of the fire-quencher or the avenger of slander.
We wore there a night as white as snow
Which the tailor dressed in a gown of cotton.
And we sailed on the open desert until I was carried away
By the wing of an eagle that does not return to its nest.
When we turned back, we did not find
A ship to guide us better than the ships.
Calamities were cast at us in every cove
That seemed like an atmosphere filled with fog.
You see the ships above the waves in them as if
They were descending from weakness and leaning on weakness.
So I pitched my tent in the shade of the most magnificent ancestor
Who speaks without falsehood and gives without stinginess,
The trustee of the Chosen One and his cousin’s son
His father completed the pride between father and son.
