أطيبُ الطيباتِ أمرٌ ونهيٌ

لا يُردانِ في الأمورِ الجسامِ

Sweetest of all delights are a command and a prohibition,

neither of them gainsaid in momentous affairs;

وامتطاءُ الخيولِ في كَنَفِ الأم

نِ بغير الإقدامِ والإحجامِ

and mounting horses under the shelter of safety,

without either advancing or retreating;

وسماعُ الصهيلِ في لجب المو

كبِ تحتَ اللواءِ والأعلامِ

and hearing their neighing amid the procession’s clamor,

beneath the banner and the standards.
