1. Behold the rain that fell in drops,

    and its namesake, Ghayth, who followed after it:

  2. the two alike in dew-soft bounty and noble generosity,

    yet different—and blessed is the way they differ!

  3. This one bestowed, and his gift endured

    among us; that one persisted in raining, then passed away.

  4. The raincloud departed, but his noble gifts did not cease;

    all praise to Ghayth—the Ghayth who remained.

  5. How lovely our gathering, how radiant its delight,

    graced by an illustrious man surpassing all description!

  6. Clouds descended upon the marble, and have

    turned all around you into a fresh, untrodden meadow,

  7. lush and smiling whenever a sidelong glance comes

    from the cloud’s eye, making marvels spring forth.

  8. O Ghayth—a rain of generosity, a teeming downpour lavishly poured,

    and springtime of Jūj, prodigally fertile!

  9. May you never cease taking your morning and evening draughts,

    girded with praise and wrapped in it as a cloak;

  10. may evening and morning find you in carefree bliss,

    fearing neither calamity nor injustice.

  11. For surely, in lineage, you are the noblest of ʿĀmir,

    and among them the most deeply rooted of ʿĀmir in honor.
