    Like a sparrow sipping dew,

Friend, how shameless is the face of the dove!

Far be it from that face to know misery

    Or be pelted with pebbles.

Far be it from that graceful brow

To be stripped of its beauty and grace.

Alas, people lamented for the death of Majid,

    Saying the noble has died.

    Not far, O Far One,

    Nor despicable, O Faithful Protector.

You stumbled, so neither is the palace joyful,

Nor is your gate thronged with crowds.

Nor are the white tents pitched,

Blessed are you who pitched those tents.

Evil upon a world that destroyed its people

And took them in gaining wreckage.

It takes what it gives, so why do we

Prolong conflict in what does not last?

O Qarwash's grave, you were watered with life

And no floods of destruction swept over you.

He passed and I have not passed in his wake,

For I am modest towards those I owe gratitude.

I recite poetry while love preoccupies me,

How strange that the words came out coherent.
