Enough blaming me, for giving up is enough for me,
Or try some of what I face and blame me.
Becoming sands that drift you still do not know,
That drifting sands, desire makes drift in me.
I love beauty, and fear of God holds me back,
From passion, while charming eyes entice me.
Why does Asma insist on delaying our trysts?
Each beauty with charm has one who charms.
Youth used to bring me closer to India,
But has now made my hair gray, distancing me.
O India, gray hair suits worldly life,
While white hair suits religion.
I am not one whose practice is to backbite the noble,
Nor tale bearing my nature or faith.
Leave me be, suffering life alone,
For some knowing people is enough for me.
Those who seek to destroy me by night do not harm me,
For God protects and builds me.
I care not that time's caprice angers me,
For your blessings' flow satisfies me.
Abu Salama lives on, so make peace and be protected,
With the star's ray, aligned.
I suffer without you and love to owe you allegiance,
While they owe allegiance to their faith, and I to mine.
