مثلي كَبائع طسته بِشَرابه
سراً لَئلا يعلم الجيران
My case is like a man who sold his basin for wine,
secretly, lest the neighbors find out.
لَما تملى ظَلَ في غَثَيانِهِ
يَشكو الصُداع فَعادَه الإِخوان
Once he had drunk his fill, he remained there nauseated,
complaining of a headache; then his friends came to visit.
فَدَعوا بطست كَي يَقئ فَقال
مَه لَو كانَ طست لَم يَكُن غَثيان
They called for a basin so that he might vomit, but he said,
“Stop! Had there been a basin, there would have been no nausea.”
