The envious sick at heart hides his moaning
And feigns to be sad when with me communing
He blames me if I seek after knowledge keenly
And gather lore from narrators wisely
And hold the virgin speech in mastery
And keep in memory all I gather seenly
And claims that knowledge brings not richness only
And judges ignorance good witted, cleanly
Then cease to blame me; let me rate my value
By what I know and what I can do comely
When people are counted, I am not the lowest
And always scorn to be of black coats mostly
When speakers see my eloquence and senses
They find my ways have torn pretense to pieces
And in my life and death no doubt arises
That dead men should be left above ground uneasily
God willed that I when virtues are recited
Be named among the first, and readily
