رَبَّ لَيلٍ صحبته كاسف

البال كَئيباً حَليف همٍّ شَتيت

Lord of a gloomy night whose company depressed my mind

A troubled ally of scattered cares

مؤنِساً ربعه بِطول أَنيني

وَهُوَ لي موحش بِطول السُكوتِ

His long groaning was my companion in his quarter

Yet to me he was lonely in his long silence

تَحتَ سَقف مِن الزَبَرجَد

قَد رُصع بِالدُر وَالياقوتِ

Beneath a roof of emerald

Inlaid with pearls and rubies
