أما الصيام فشيء لست أعدمهُ

مدى الزمان وإن بيتُ إفطارا

As for fasting, it's something I'll never go without

Throughout time, though my home be set for breakfast

أغشى أناساً فأغشى في منازلهم

جوعاً علي ولا أغشى لهم نارا

I've overcome people, so I'll overcome in their homes

Hunger for me, though I won't overcome their fire

قد ألجموا القمل أن ترزأ دماءهم

وألجموا في الكوى الجرذان والفارا

They've bridled the lice from sucking their blood

And bridled in their cooking pots the mice and rat
