Yearning for the beloved though unrequited, O youth,

Passionately loving selflessness as ardour persists.

هِيل المتيّم بعد الأمن مُذ أفلت

أقماره فهو داهي القلب واهيه

The lovesick lost security when hopes were dashed,

Now a broken heart and lost dreams abound.

هيهات ينعم بعد البين ذو شجن

إن لم تكن ساعة اللقيا تواسيه

Alas, no comfort comes after parting for the woeful one

Unless the hour of reunion can console.

هي ساعةف يت دانيها الحياة كما

في بعدها الموت قد أضحت ترائيه

That hour when life seems so close,

While after it death looms from afar.

هيّئ إذا رُمت أن تلقى الهوى جَلَدا

وأبَ المنام فبئس الحب آبيه

Prepare if destined to meet passion head-on

And refuse sleep, for stubborn love brings woe.

هيب الغرام فَكُن إن حلّ ذا وجل

كم باسل منه داهي الطرف داميه

Fear the power of love, so if faced with it, tremble,

Though many bold ones have been felled by alluring eyes.

بذكر أهيف زاكي الحسن وايه
