وحياة لحظ قد سطا بحُسَامه

وسبى الحشا عبثاً برشق سهامه

A fleeting moment granted life with his sword

He captured wildlife in vain with his arrow’s cast

وبديع ورد في الخدود قد انتشى

يزهو بغصن فاتن بقوامه

Exquisite roses bloomed on the cheeks

Blossoming on a charming, slender branch

وضيا جبين لو بدا مُتهللاً

في الليل جرّد عنه ثوب ظلامه

Radiant is the brow, were it to shine unveiled

The cloak of darkness robbed it of its raiment in the night

لو قد رأى مَن قد سبتني عاذلي

لرثى إليّ وعاد عن إيلامه

If my blamer could see she who captivated me

She would pity me and cease her torment

حكمت بأسري في الغرام وحبذا

أسر المشوق بحكم أهل غرامه

I was destined for captivity in passion and rightly so

Captive to the charmer by destiny of other ardent lovers

إن أفنَ أو يَفنَ اصطباري فالبقا

لغرامها ولي الهنا بدوامه

If my patience is spent, or expires

My passion for her and happiness with her will endure
