1. من لين قَدٍّ وقَلب فيَّ تشديدُ

    للصبر والشوق إبلاءٌ وتجيدُ

    With a soft disposition yet a resolute heart

    Patience, yearning, tribulation and excellence abound

  2. والخدّ من شَجَنٍ بالدّمع خدده

    طَيرٌ له سحراً في الدَّوح تغريدُ

    And cheeks their tears have engraved

    A bird with magical charm melodiously sings

  3. وارحمتاه لموجوع ألمّ به

    للطَّرف والقلب في الأحشاء تَنكيدُ

    Show mercy to one aggrieved by pain

    Tormenting his eyes and heart in his intestines

  4. فالقلبُ يحرَق لولا الطرفُ مُنسَجمٌ

    والطرفُ يغرَق لولا القلبُ موقودُ

    Thus the heart burns were it not for the consonant eyes

    And the eyes drown were it not for the flaming heart

  5. يا هاجري عبثاً هل في اللقا طَمَعٌ

    كيما يُؤمّل قُرباً منك مَبعُودُ

    O you who migrated in vain, is there any hope of meeting

    That may portend imminent proximity after distance?

  6. أوعَدتُه باللقا وَعداً فهامَ فهل

    يهدا بذلك مودوعٌ وموعودُ

    I promised him a meeting, so he fell into delusion - will

    A lodger or awaited thus be guided?

  7. قد ضاعَ قلبي لمّا ضاع منك شذى

    فهل فديتك ما قد ضاع مردود

    My heart was lost when your fragrance was lost

    So, my ransom, will what is lost return?

  8. في ذمّة اللَه ما لاقاه من وَصَب

    مُتَيّمٌ برزايا البَين مكمود

    To God belongs what adversity he encountered

    A despairing victim of the calamities of separation

  9. ارحم بوصلك صباً كنت تعهده

    قبل الصبابة منه الصبر معهود

    Have mercy by your union on a youth you used to promise

    Before patience left him, long accustomed

  10. يبيتُ لا سهرت عيناك يُزعجه

    وجُود شَوق لديه الصَّبرُ مفقود

    He stays awake while your eyes know no vigil

    With burning passion making patience all but nonexistent

  11. هل سوء حظي رعاك اللَه أوقفني

    في الجهد أم كل من يهواك مجهود

    Is it my misfortune - God bless you - that hindered me

    In exertion? Or is everyone who adores you exerted?

  12. إن أبك تضحَك وإن أسهر تَنَم فلذا

    طرفي وطرفُك مغمورٌ ومغمود

    If I weep you laugh, if I stay up you sleep, so

    My eyes and yours are teary and bleary

  13. كم ذمّ حبّيك عذالي وما كذبوا

    بل حُبّ أحمد في الدارين محمود

    How your love berated my injustice though they did not lie

    Rather, Ahmad's love in both abodes is praiseworthy

  14. مَن زاره سيرى أو زاره مُحيَت

    وذاك بالفوز مسعوف ومسعود

    One who visits him will see a greeting or visiting him blessings

    Thus triumphant, fortunate and successful

  15. هل معهد قد صدرنا عن موارده

    سُكّان مكّة بعد البَين مورود

    Has the covenant we made at its bounds

    Expelled Mecca's inhabitants after separation?

  16. وهل بلؤلؤ دمع ثم مُنتشرق

    قبل المنية عقد الوصل منضود

    Can a pearl-like teardrop then shine radiantly

    Before death a necklace of reunion be strung?

  17. وهل لكسري باب الجبر مُنفتحٌ

    وهل بوصلي باب الهجر مسدود

    Can Chosroes' gate be opened by divine decree

    Or can my gate of estrangement be barred?

  18. بيضُ الليالي إذ لم تُنعموا برضى

    على المتيّم يا عُربِ الحِمى سود

    The nights turned white when you did not bestow

    Contentment upon the despairing one, O Arabs of the sanctuary - darken!

  19. قد أطلع اللَه من آفاقكم قمراً

    نارت بطلعته الأحياء والبيد

    God has made rise from your horizons a moon

    Whose rising dazzled the living and inanimate

  20. ظلت تلين لذكراه القلوب كما

    كانت تلين لنعليه الجلاميد

    Hearts kept softening when remembering it

    As camel hides were softened by his sandal

  21. إن يَمش في الرمل لم يُشهَد له أثرٌ

    وفي الصخور له التأثير مشهود

    If he walks on sand no trace of him is witnessed

    Yet in boulders his impression remains visible

  22. كم فجّرت يده عيناً تفيضُ وكم

    بعد العمى ردّها ما ذاك مجحود

    How many springs his hand unleashed overflowing

    How many blind eyes, after blindness, were restored ungrudgingly

  23. مَن ذا يقاسيه بأساً أو يُقايسه

    حلماً تظل أجاميدَ الأماجدُ

    Who can match his might in battle or

    Match his clemency? The glories of all time bow

  24. فَمن مسيرة شهر من مهابته

    قلب المُعاند مردوع ومرعود

    For from his awe, in but a month

    The stubborn enemy heart recoils terrified

  25. وفي المعامع لا قرنٌ يُمارسُه

    تفرّ إن كرّ في الهيجا الصناديد

    In the fray, no equal can challenge him

    The mythical birds flee when he roars amidst the heat

  26. هذا وبالرأفة الرحمن يمدحه

    والعفو شيمته والحلم والجود

    Yet the Merciful praises him for his kindness

    Clemency and forbearance his traits, magnanimity his habit

  27. أزكى الأنام وأتقاهم وأرحمهم

    منه المُسيء بحُسن العفو مرفود

    The most devout, reverent and compassionate of all people

    The transgressor is driven away by his sublime pardon

  28. يلقى من الجود مَن وافاه ذا أمل

    ما ليس يلقى من الآباء مولود

    Whoever hopes and sees him receives through his munificence

    What no father bestows on his own begotten

  29. أزكى صلاة وتسليم قد اتصلا

    عليه ما سبّح الرحمن موجود

    The most immaculate salutations and blessings connected

    To him for as long as The Merciful exists
