1. تطلعَت البُدور من الغُصون

    فأسفَرَ ذاك عن وجدي المصون

    The buds emerged from the branches,

    Exposing my hidden passion.

  2. ومن سُود اللواحظ خلتُ بيضاً

    تصول على الفؤاد من الجفون

    From the darkness of my glances I became bright,

    Raging inside my heart from my eyelids.

  3. ورُمتُ تستّراً في ليل شعر

    فعاجَلَني الصباح من الجبين

    I was struck by the morning from my forehead,

    Though I tried to hide in the night of my hair.

  4. عيوني قد رضمَت بالنار قلبي

    وقلبي قد رمى بالما عيوني

    My eyes have pierced my heart with fire,

    And my heart has cast water into my eyes.

  5. فذا من تلك جُنّ وتلك منذا

    وقد دار التسلسل في جفوني

    This is from those devils, and that from these,

    Circling endlessly in my eyelids.

  6. ولما أن وشى خوّان دمعي

    كتمت الوجد في قلبي الأمين

    When the traitors told on my tears,

    I concealed my passion in my faithful heart.

  7. فوجدي في فؤادي في السويدا

    كمينٌ في كمين في كمين

    So my passion in my heart lies hidden,

    Ambush within ambush within ambush.

  8. أبا مَن أطلقوني في هواهم

    وتيهاً عن سواهم قيّدوني

    Oh those who unleashed me into their love,

    And lost me to all but them, binding me!

  9. ويا من أوجدني بعض وجدي

    به كل التصبّر أعدموني

    Oh you who made me find some passion,

    With which all patience I lose.

  10. ويا مَن حلّلُوا تحريم هجري

    ومن حِلّ التواصل أحرموني

    Oh you who made lawful to abandon me,

    And from reunion made me forbidden!

  11. لكم وهب الهوى رقّي وأنتم

    به أولى البرايا فاقبلوني

    To you love gave my tenderness, yet you

    Are most entitled to accept me.

  12. عدوُني إن نأيتم بالتداني

    وفي تسويف وعدكم دعوني

    You count me enemy if I draw near,

    And in delaying your promise you leave me.

  13. لقد أفنى الهوى جَلَدي وأبقى

    جوى كبدي وأضناني شجوني

    Passion has exhausted my skin, and left

    The burning of my liver and the groans of my ribs.

  14. ولم يُبق التنائي لي بقيتم

    سوى رَمَق بتخييل الظنون

    Nothing of my being apart from you remains

    Except a gasp in imagining suspicions.

  15. وما لي مَخلَصٌ إلا ملاذي

    بجاه المصطفى طه الأمين

    I have no savior but my refuge

    In the glory of the Chosen, the Truthful,

  16. رسول اللَه خير الخلق مَن قد

    حباه اللَه بالفتح المبين

    The Messenger of God, best of creation,

    Whom God graced with the Manifest Victory.

  17. لكَم بي جدّ وَجدي يا كراماً

    بنجد هل لكم أن تُنجدوني

    How much, by my passion and fervor, O noble ones

    Of Najd, will you come to my aid?

  18. جزمت برفع كسري حال نصبي

    بدا فقري لكم كي تُسعدوني

    I determined to mend my broken state

    Revealing my poverty, that you may enrich me.

  19. بكم قمر له قد حنّ جذع

    فكيف إليه لا يقوى حنيني

    Through you the moon, whose palm tree has bent in yearning -

    How could my pining not reach it?

  20. كريم لا يُضام له نزيل

    شديدُ البطش ذو عطف ولين

    A generous man who does not fail his guest,

    Severe in might, gentle and kind.

  21. به علّقت آمالي وأرجو

    يقيناً في مآلي أن يقيني

    On him I pinned my hopes, and I hope

    Certainly in my fate that you will confirm me.

  22. يُحرّكني إليه سُكون وجدي

    ولا تعجب لتحريك السكون

    My still passion stirs me toward him,

    And wonder not at stirring stillness!

  23. فكم أبدى هوى لذوي التصابي

    إذا هم مارسوه في فنون

    How often passion has come over those of discipline

    When they engaged in the arts!

  24. صلاة اللَه ما لمعت بروق

    عليه من السحابة كل حين

    The prayers of God have never ceased

    To shine upon him from the clouds, always.
