1. عقيق راحي انجلى في لؤلؤ الحَبَبِ

    كالشمس مع قمر في نجمة الذهب

    Crimson wine gleamed in pearls of the cup,

    Like the sun with the moon in a star of gold.

  2. وعسجد الكأس قد حُيي بتبر طلا

    فحيّا منسكباً حيّا بمُنسكب

    We bowed to the goblet as it was greeted with musk,

    Hail it overflowing, hail it overflowing.

  3. وسَل سبيلاً إلى سلساله اختلست

    روحي بنشاتها من راحة التعب

    It found its way to steal my soul's chain,

    With its exhilaration from the rest of fatigue.

  4. قديمة العصر شبه الشمس قد حدثت

    بالفجر أنوارها تبدو من الحجدب

    Ancient of age, sun-like, it conversed

    At dawn its lights appear from its veil.

  5. الطرف مشرقها والقلب مغربها

    تسير في دَرَج السرّاء بالأرب

    Its glance is shining and its heart is setting,

    It moves on the path of bliss and calm.

  6. بكى لفرقتها الراووق فابتسمت

    وواصلت دمعه بالماء واللهب

    The nightingale wept at its absence, so it smiled

    And joined its tear with water and flame.

  7. حيّا بها أغيد أحداقه سبقت

    أقداحه لاقتناص اللهو والطرب

    The revelers greet it, their eyes outpaced

    Their goblets to seize joy and delight.

  8. منه العذار وخدّاه وريقته

    يُزرين بالآس والتفاح والضَّرَب

    From it is the nectar, his cheek and saliva

    Adorned with myrtle, apple and fresh dates.

  9. فاستجل في الكأس بكرَ الراح مُرتشفاً

    رضابها بالهنا من ثغرها الرطب

    So enrapture with the virgin wine, sipping

    Its pleasures with delight from her moist lips.

  10. والبَس لصَرف العنا من صرفها خَلَعاً

    واخلَع عذارك والقَ الجدّ باللّعب

    And wear, to ward off cares, a robe

    Cast off inhibition, meet sincerity with play.

  11. واعدُ الصُّحاة وغب سُكراً بخلعَتها

    وهَب هُمُومك للسرّا ولا تَهَب

    Keep your date with morn, forget your drunkenness in its rapture

    Relinquish your worries to the hidden and do not fade.

  12. واستَعط كاسك في روض قد ابتسمت

    أزهاره لبكاء الجوّ بالسحب

    Ask your goblet in a meadow which has smiled

    With flowers that wept from the clouds’ rain.

  13. على حمائم في أغصانه صدحت

    بعذب ألحانها من مُترَف القُضب

    Upon doves in its branches that trilled

    With melodious tunes from slender twigs.

  14. وفيه مهما بدا الساقي بكأسك قل

    يا بدر يومي غب يا شمسه احتجبي

    In it, no matter how much the cupbearer offers your cup, say

    “My full moon day, disappear, O my sun, veil yourself.”

  15. ويا فؤادي ويا طرفي الهنا لكما

    في الروض بالكأس والساقي فطب وطب

    And O my heart and eyes, delight yourselves

    In the meadow with the cup and cupbearer, so excellent, excellent.
