يا ليلة منحت قلبي أمانيه

فدتك أيام عمري مع لياليه

O night that granted my heart its wishes

I sacrifice for you my days and nights

هل راجع منك وقت مر حين حلا

أحيا فؤادي المعنى من تفانيه

Will there come a time like when it passed, in which

My heart revived its meaning from its devotion?

وقتٌ حباني على غيظ العذول بما

لم يُلقَ في أملي أني ألاقيه

A time that blessed me despite the jealous one's rage

With what I did not expect I would find

من أنس ظبي ظُبا ألحاظه رضيت

تلاف صبّ غدت تأتي تلافيه

From the intimacy of a gazelle, I was pleased with its glances

The pouring of passion became reciprocal

أصداغه عطفت تُغريه بي عبثاً

ومنه تحذير قلبي غير واقيه

Its cheeks tempted me in vain, enticing me

And warning my heart which had no protection

قوامُه الغصن روض القلب مغرسه

سلسال جدول ماء الحُسن ساقيه

Its posture a branch planted in the garden of my heart

A chain, a stream of beauty its water bearer

عليه بالسعد أطيار الهنا صدحت

تقول لو نطقت سبحان باريه

The birds of joy chirped to it in good fortune

As if saying "Glory to its Creator"

إن ماس من هَيَف أو مال من دَنَف

مَن ذا يقايسه أو من ذا يُقاسيه

Be it flexible, tender, leaning or bending

Who can compare to it or endure it?

يزداد حسناً فيزداد الفؤاد أسى

والصبر ينقص ما لا ترى فيه

It grows more beautiful so my heart grows sadder

Patience decreases for what cannot be seen in it

مُذ خصني بعموم الفكر فيه غدا

بديع مدحي بياناً عن معانيه

Since it distinguished me with universal thought, it became

Eloquent praise of its meanings through my poetry

من شر ما خلق المولى أعوذه

بِقُل أعُوذُ بربّ الناس كافيه

I seek refuge from the evil Allah created

In saying: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sufficient
