    بقرة حمرا ولها ذنب

  2. ولها في بزبزها لبن

    يبدو للناس إذا حلبوا

    In her udder is milk

    That flows when milked

  3. لا تغضب يوماً إن شُتمَت

    والناس إذا شُتموا غضبوا

    Never gets angry when insulted

    While people get angry when insulted

  4. لا بدّ لهذا من سبب

    حزري بزري ماذا السبب

    There must be a reason for this

  5. من أعجب ما في مصر يُرى

    الكرم يُرى فيه العنب

    Of the wonders seen in Egypt

    Grapes are seen on vines

  6. والنخل يُرى فيه بلح

    قالوا ويرى فيه رطب

    They say ripe dates too are seen

  7. ووسيم بها البرسيم كذا

    في الجيزة قد زُرع القصب

    Beautiful wheat in it like this

    In Giza, sugarcane is grown

  8. زهر الكتاب مع البلسان

    هما لونان ولا كذب

    Flowers and the tongue

    Are two colors, no lie

  9. كيهود في دير خُلطوا

    بنصارى حرّكهم طرب

    Like Jews in a monastery mixed

    With Christians moved by rapture

  10. وقناطر أم الحسن بها

    ماء في الخضرة ينسرب

    And arches of Umm al-Hasan in it

    Water flows in the greenery

  11. والخيمة قال الناس إذا

    نصبت فالحبل لها طنب

    And the tent, people say, when

    Pitched, a rope is tied to it

  12. والمركب مع ما قد وسقت

    في البحر بطرف تنسحب

    And the boat, after loaded

    In the sea, sails away

  13. البيض إذا جاعوا أكلوا

    والسمر إذا عطشوا شربوا

    The whites, when hungry, eat

    The browns, when thirsty, drink

  14. الناقة لا منقار لها

    والوزة ليس لها قتب

    The camel has no beak

    The goose has no stump

  15. الوز يبيض بثقبته

    وينام عليه فينثقب

    The goose lays with its hole

    And sits on it to hatch

  16. والوز الفقس بأرض بلقس

    كذا في المقس لها زغب

    And the hatched gosling in Balqis
