بيتي حدا بيت جاري

والماء في البحر جاري

My house is next to my neighbor's house

And water flows in the sea

والساقية بالقواديس

تملأ المياه في المجاري

The waterwheels with buckets

Fill water in the canals

والنخل يطرح بلحلح

يطلع شماريخ خضاري

And the palm trees shed dates

Green buds emerge

حتى إذا استوى صار

بين الصّفار والحَمار

Until it becomes straight

Between whistling and braying

في الريف تلقى المغلات

أجران كبار مع صغار

In the countryside you find huts

Big and small together

والجرن ما هو شُخيتير

ليش يكسحوه بالمداري

And the jar is not too small

Why do they pound it with pestle

والبحر فيه المراكب

بين انقلاع وانحدار

The sea has ships

Rising and falling

الحادرات بالمجاديف

والمقلعات بالصواري

Rowboats with oars

And sailboats with masts

التوت يؤكل بقشره

والجوز بعد انقشار

Mulberry is eaten with its skin

And walnut after cracking

والموز يطلع مطاول

فوق الشجر كالخيار

Bananas grow on stems

Like cucumbers

والخوخ يبقى مكبب

مشعّر يكون أو زهاري

And peaches remain fuzzy

Hairy or flowery

يؤكل ويرمي نواه

في الليل أو في النهار

Eaten and its pit discarded

At night or in the day
