برمح القَدّ قد أمسى يُغازي

My soul is afflicted with love for a Hejazi maiden

Whose slender form fights with a spear.

أضاع القلب مني في هواه

بطرف قد سطا عند البراز

She has stolen my heart with her glances -

Eyes that she raised on the battlefield.

ومن عجب الهوى في مصر جسمي

وقلبي ضاع في طرف الحجاز

How strange is love's power over my body,

While my heart is lost to a glance from Hejaz.
