رعاك اللَه من غصن يميدُ
أحاول ما يريد ولي يبيدُ
May God protect you, branch swaying gently
I try to do what he wants though he destroys me
له من ماله إن أهدى ما لا
يليق فبالقيود متى تجود
If he gives gifts unfit for one's station
With chains can kindness be repaid?
فما شأن الكرام من الموالي
قبول يسير ما تُهدي العبيد
Why expect nobles to act like slaves-
Accepting the lowly's offerings?
أبَيت ألا احكم بما تشتهي
حكم القوي على الضعيف
I refused to rule as you wished
The strong over the weak
كم ذا التجني يا غزال
غزا فؤادي بالعيون
How much O gazelle have you plundered
Plundering my heart with your eyes
وارسل من الأجفان نبال
أظهر بها سري المصون
Sending from the lashes arrows
Revealing my hidden passions
وفي الرياض بالقّد مال
فغار من قدّه الغصون
In the gardens with coyness you swayed
Jealousy in the branches it evoked
يا مَن جفاه لا ينهي
ولا عليّ وصله رئيف
O you who spurned me, he won't stop
Nor will he gently reunite us
احكم بماذا تشتهي
حكم القوي على الضعيف
Rule how you wish
The strong over the weak
يا مَن أسري في هواه
ارحم بحُسنك ذا الأسير
O you who made me your prisoner
Pity with your beauty this captive
ومَن كسر قلبي جفاه
اجبر بوصلك ذا الكبير
He who broke my heart spurning me
Mend it with your affection for this elder
مَن سار بوصلك فالتقاه
فكل ما يلقاه يسير
He who meets you through your affection
All he meets will be easy
يا مَن سهر طرفه الشهي
وجار على جسمي النحيف
O you whose wakeful eyes are intoxicated
And spare body assaults mine
احكم بماذا تشتهي
حكم القوي على الضعيف
