    فأنت عنك الهم بالكأس المدار

    ظل أيام الشباب المستعار

    Rise, let us plunder pleasure in

    The shade of borrowed days of youth.

  3. إنما العار الذي تحذره

    أن تراني من لباس العار عاري

    The shame you fear

    Is to see me stripped of the clothes of shame,

  4. لا ومن داويت قلبي باسمه

    لا تدرعت بأثواب الوقار

  5. ولخيرٌ منه أن أشربها

    في سنا الصبح على صوت القماري

  6. قهوة تعشق من ذي هيفٍ

    قمري الوجه ليلي العذار

    Coffee adored by one with gentle voice

    Moon-faced, night-eyed, unrestrained.

  7. تسكر الألباب من ألفاظه

    فهي تغني الشرب عن شرب العقار

    It intoxicates minds with its words

    So it sings drinking without drugged drink.

  8. وإذا حدثته عن وصله

    راح لا يلقاك إلا بازورار

    And if I told him of our union

  9. قمرٌ قبلت منه وجنةً

    حشوها ما شئت من ماءٍ ونار

  12. وإذا طاف بها تحسبه

    بدر ليلٍ حاملاً شمس نهار

  13. وسعيدٌ من تقضي عمره

    بين كاسات رضابٍ وعقار

    Happy who spends his life

    Between cups of wine and drugged drinks

  14. في اصطباحٍ واغتباقٍ واقترا

    بٍ واغترابٍ وانتهاكٍ واستتار

    In morning draughts, gulps, sips

    And estrangement, violations, and hiding.

  15. شغلته الراح أن تبصره

    واقفاً يندب أطلال الديار

    The ease preoccupied him to see him

    Standing lamenting the ruins of homes.

  16. نعم دنياه التي راح بها

    طرباً يعثر في فضل الإزار

    Yes, his life in which he went happily

    Stumbling in the pleats of his wrap.

  17. فإذا مات التقى من ربه

    رحمةً تسكنه دار القرار
