نشدتُكَ بالوُدِّ الذي كانَ بينَنَا

وللوُدِّ بينَ الصَّالحينَ أَواصِرُ

I yearned for the affection that was between us

For affection among the righteous has enduring bonds

متى قلت فيما ساءني أَنتَ مذنبٌ

اِليَّ وفيما ضرَّني أَنتَ ضائِرُ

Whenever I said you were at fault for what pained me

The fault was mine and for what harmed me, you were blameless

وكلُّ فتىً في الناسِ يُظِهرُ وُدَّهُ

ظنينٌ اذا لم تَختَبره المَخَابِرُ

Every youth among people shows his affection

But one is unsure until tested by adversity
