رأيتَ كَريماً مفرداً فنصرتَه

وأنتَ لها عندَ الشّدائدِ فَعّالُ

You saw a generous man alone, so you supported him

And you were there for him in times of adversity

على حين لم يشهدْ أبوهُ وخانَه

أخوهُ وأعرى ظهرَهُ العمُّ والخالُ

While his father did not stand by him and his brother betrayed him

And his uncle and aunt stripped his back bare

ولم تَحمِ من لُؤمِ اللّوائمِ عِرضَه

فطاعنت عنه والأسنّةُ أقْوالُ

And you did not carry the burden of blames upon him

So you defended him while tongues were making claims

حفاظاً على المجْدِ التليدِ وغيرةً

أما لكَ عن كسبِ المَحامِدِ أشغالُ

Keeping the ancient glory and out of zeal

Don’t you have anything else to do but earn praise?!

جعلتَ الغِنى سيفاً ورُمحاً وسابحاً

وسابغةً فيها فضولٌ وأذيالُ

You made wealth into a sword, a spear and a swimmer

With surplus and trails in it

ستُخْصبُ أرماحُ الصّعاليكِ بعدَها

وقولُكَ هذا حين يَخْضَبُ أمثالُ

After it the spears of gallant men will be fertile

And your saying so when examples become bloody

حَمى المجدَ من أنْ يستضامَ سَمَيْدَعٌ

وقورٌ لأعباءِ المَغارمِ حَمّالُ

You protected glory from being infringed upon by any ignoble

And you carried the burdens of ordeals

أخو ثِقةٍ لا يملكُ المالُ همَّهُ

فينفَعَ إكثارٌ لديهِ وإقلالُ

A brother of trust, money does not consume his worries

So neither hoarding nor lack thereof benefits him

كعاليةِ الرّمحِ المثقَفِ ماجداً

إذا لم يكن للنّاسِ فالناسُ أشكالُ

Like the high spear well prepared gloriously

If it is not for the people then the people are but shapes
