1. ألا يا أيُّها الملكُ الرّؤوفُ

    إلى كم ذا التأمّلُ والوقوفُ

    O King, the merciful one

    For how long this contemplation and standing still?

  2. وقد حنّتْ جيادُك أنْ تَراها

    يلِفُّ صدورَها الأسلُ المُنيفُ

    Your steeds have yearned to see it

    Wrapped around in fine coats of mail

  3. مكمّلة الجوانِبِ والنّواحي

    وآثارُ الطِّعانِ بِها قُروفُ

    With fully armed flanks and sides

    And the traces of spears on them exalted

  4. أنَفتُ لها تُباشِرُ غيرَ حربٍ

    يكونُ نصيبَها من الجيشِ الكَثيفُ

    I refused that they engage other than in war

    So their share of the dense army would be plentiful

  5. سِنانُ السّمْهَريِّ بها وضيعٌ

    وصدرُ المَشرَفيّ بها شَريفُ

    The Indian swords in it are disgraced

    And the chests of the honorable in it are esteemed

  6. تَناصرتِ السّيوفِ على قَناها

    فإفلاتُ القَنا منْها طَريفُ

    The swords have collaborated against its spear

    Yet the escape of the spear from them is swift

  7. وما الفلواتُ عندَ سِواكَ دارٌ

    ولا طولُ السُّرى دَعَةٌ وريفُ

    The wastelands compared to you are no abode

    Nor are long journeys leisure and countryside

  8. فإنْ كنت الضِرابَ الهَبْرَ تَبْغي

    وطعناً تَستجيبُ له الحُتوفُ

    If you desire the fierce strike

    And a stab that the breastplates respond to

  9. فطوقْها الأسنّةَ أو تَراها

    ومن ماءِ النحورِ لها وكيفُ

    Then besiege it with the tongues or you will see it

    And treat it from the water of throats, however you wish

  10. وفي أحْشائِنا منها نُجومٌ

    وفي آذانِنا منها شُنوفُ

    And within us are stars from it

    And in our ears from it are earrings

  11. فما هي غيرُ معركةٍ تَجلّى

    وقد رَويتْ منَ الرومِ السّيوفُ

    It is nothing but a battle wherein

    The Roman swords were made to shine

  12. تُحلُّ على صَوارمكَ الهَوادي

    وتنظمُ في ذوابلكَ الصُفوفُ

    It descends upon your sharp blades

    And lines up in your regiments

  13. لوَ انّ الدّهرَ لانَ للِنْتَ فيهِ

    كِلانا عندَهُ الخُلقُ العَنيفُ

    If time were to be fair

    We and the fierce people would be equal in it

  14. يَحيفُ عليَّ أيْنَ حللت منهُ

    ولكن في جِوارِكَ لا يَحيفُ

    It is unjust to me wherever I reside in it

    But in your vicinity no injustice occurs

  15. ينالُ نوالَكم من شَطَّ عنكُمْ

    فكيفَ تضيعُ عندكم الضّيوفُ

    Whoever turns away from you attains your bestowal

    So how can strangers lose out near you?
