1. وسَما ابنُ حمادٍ فَفا

    زَ بقدحِهم فوزَ المُقامِرْ

    Ibn Hammad advanced and outshone

    Their drinking cups, thus the gambler won

  2. بلاّلُ أسوُقِها بما

    ءِ كعوبِها قبلَ الحَناجرْ

    Bilal made them gulp it down

    Before their throats by his buckets drawn

  3. ضاحٍ يكون مَقيلُهُ

    في ظلِّ ألويةِ العساكرْ

    A horse whose rider is Dhahhak

    Beneath the banners of armies back

  4. وسميرُهُ في ليلِه

    نَهمُ الهَماهمِ والزّماجرْ

    And its neigh in the night

    Of anxieties and confusion the plight

  5. صُلْبٌ فإنْ لايَنتَهُ

    ألفيتَهُ هشَّ المكاسِرْ

    Unyielding it remains unless

    You find it shattered into pieces

  6. يا ذا المناقبِ والمطا

    هِرِ دون كلِّ أخٍ مُطاهِرْ

    Oh you of glorious deeds and grace

    Above all pure and modest in place

  7. وفتى عُقيلٍ حين تحزُ

    بُها الملماتُ الكبائرْ

    And a young man of Uqail when

    Afflicted by major calamities then

  8. وأصَحَّها خُلقاً إذا

    طُوِيَتْ على الغِشِّ الضّمائرْ

    Most virtuous in manners when

    Hearts are shielded from deceit within

  9. وإذا هوازنُ أعوزتْ

    بالضيفِ والجارِ المُجاورْ

    Whenever Hawazin lacked in need

    Of guests and neighbors indeed

  10. وعدا الوفي على أخي

    هِ ولم يخفْ لذعَ المُعايرْ

    And the loyal one raced to the aid

    Of his brother undeterred by reproach made

  11. والأرضُ دارعةٌ بنو

    بِ صَقيعها والجوُّ حاسرْ

    The land clad in its wintry gown

    And the air is rowdy and frown

  12. كنتَ الذي تأوي إلي

    هِ قلوبُ قيسٍ في الثراثرْ

    You were the one hearts would go to

    Of Qais in times of woe

  13. ولقد حميتَ ذمارَ شَي

    بانَ بنَ ثعلبةَ المَغورْ

    You protected the houses of Shayban

    Son of Tha'labah from decline

  14. إذْ جاوروكَ فكنتَ أك

    رَمَ مَنْ يُجاورُهُ مجاورْ

    When they resided by you, you were to your neighbors

    Kinder than anyone who neighors

  15. وضممتَ جانبَهم كما ان

    ضمّت على الكَسْرِ الجَبائرْ

    And you brought them close as if to mend

    The broken parts together you blend

  16. وأجرتَهم والدهرُ بال

    أقوامِ منتفض المرائرْ

    And you hosted them while fate with

    Unruly groups conflict did instigate

  17. وهم الذي تقسّموا

    بالحِنو أسلابَ الأكاسِرْ

    They who divided war spoils with

    songs of glory, generosity great

  18. هُم يومَ ذي قارٍ هُمُ

    عقدوا الأبيةَ بالمناخرْ

    They on the day of Dhi Qar were the ones

    Who battled fiercely locking horns

  19. يا رافعَ بنَ محمد

    للمُصْمَئِلاّتِ الكَبائرْ

    Oh Rafi' son of Muhammed who for

    Major sins the burdens bore

  20. ولحُبّهِ نزلتْ بوا

    دٍ ما يَطورُ بهِ المَناسِرْ

    And for his love, gifts were sent

    To buy provisions is money spent

  21. لا يَزْجُرنّكَ عن عَطا

    ئِكَ واقتناءِ الحمد زاجرْ

    Do not let anyone deter you

    From your gifts and seeking virtue anew

  22. إنّ الغِنى ما صانَ عِر

    ضَ المرءِ أو سدّ المفاقِرْ

    Wealth hasn't preserved the honor

    Of man or closed the door of the poor

  23. قد فاخرتْ من قبلنا

    أمَمٌ فما أغنى الَمفاخِرْ

    Noble lineages have vied before us

    Yet glory did not make them prosperous

  24. بادرْ بمالكَ تَركَهُ

    إنّ الخُطوبَ لها بَوادرْ

    Hasten with your wealth, leave it not

    Calamities have forewarners got

  25. يفديكَ من مطْلِ السقا

    مِ وجرأَةِ الأجلِ المجاهِرْ

    It will save you from asking for drink

    And bold death that makes hearts shrink

  26. حِلَلٌ تروحُ على بيو

    تِهم المؤبلة البَهازرْ

    Caravans touring their abodes

    While praise of you both present and past episodes

  27. ويروحُ مأثور الثنا

    ءِ عليكَ في بادٍ وحاضرْ

    Progeny of Mahya are the best nurtured

    More so than noble ladies measured

  28. آلُ المهيا من عُبا

    دةَ خيرُ من غَذَتِ الحَرائرْ

    They taught Ka'b eminent skills

    Of assault and continuous strikes

  29. هُم علّموا كَعباً شتي

    تَ الطعنِ والطعنَ المجاورْ

    And hospitality to guests they showed

    With utmost generosity flows

  30. وتناولَ الأضياف بال

    إيثارِ في حدّ الصّنابرْ

    Their lords, kings and brilliant stars

    You are the noblest among them by far

  31. أربابُها ومُلوكُها

    ونجومُها البيضُ الزّواهِرْ

    When matters of lineage come to fruition

  32. ولأنتَ أكرمُها إذا

    صارتْ إلى الحَسبِ المَصائرْ
