It became difficult at night's waning crescent

And the dog pants in the heat

And the coolness of dawn spreads

On a path of soft sands

And the father of loud cries is led

That lad, not like Abu Nashnash

    The shabby, dusty, disheveled

    Hollow like the brittle reed

Hedgehog of the night of livelihood

Traveling to sustenance with the bats

And the bird trappers in the nests
