1. أيَا من بشرقِ الأرضِ والغربِ يَمتري

    صَدى الجودِ أو يطوي إليه الفَيافِيا

    O you who travels the breadth of east and west

    Echoing generosity or journeying towards it

  2. أقيموا له إنْ كنتمْ من ثِقاتِهِ

    بكاةً على أمواتِه وبَواكِيا

    Pay your respects if you are among his comrades

    Weeping for his dead and lamenting

  3. فإنّ بميّافَارِقينَ حفيرةً

    تركْنا عليها ناظرَ الجودِ دامِيا

    For in Miyafariqin we left behind a grave

    Where the generous gazed ruefully

  4. تُضَمِّنُها الأيدي فتى ثكلتْ بهِ

    غَداةَ ثَوى آمالَها والأمانِيا

    Containing one whose hands were severed

    When hopes and desires were laid to rest

  5. مِنَ التغلِبيينَ الأُلى لو رأيتَهم

    رأيتَ رجالاً يَخلقونَ المَعاليا

    Of the noblest of the Taghlib if you saw them

    You'd see men who embody the highest virtues

  6. إذا هطَلوا خِلتَ السَّحابَ سَواقِياً

    وإنْ نَطقوا خِلتَ الكلامَ قَوافِيا

    When they attack, they leave clouds pouring rain

    When they speak, they leave words rhyming eloquently

  7. وأيُّ فتىً يشْكو إلى الموتِ فقدَه

    كأنْ لم يكنْ يوماً له الموتُ شاكِيا

    What young man complains to death of losing him

    As though death had never claimed all ardently

  8. إذا ذكرتْ أخلاقُه منه شيمةً

    تسربلَ منه أخلَق الحَدِّ ماضِيا

    When his manners are remembered, each a virtue

    Morals most sublime are revealed fittingly

  9. فتىَ يشربُ الماءَ الزّلالَ لفَقْدِه

    ذعافاً ويجني الطيّباتِ أفاعِيا

    A lad who drinks pure spring water in grief

    And harvests sweet herbs now with enmity

  10. فيا قَبرَه جُدْ كلَّ أرضٍ بجودِهِ

    ولا تنتظِرْ فِيها السَّحابَ الفَواديا

    Oh his grave, be bounteous in every land

    Do not expect clouds to rain copiously

  11. فإنكَ لو تدري بما فيكَ من نَدى

    تصدّعتَ حتى يُصبحَ الجوُّ طامِيا

    For if you but knew the dew inside you

    You would crack open till dawn breaks violently

  12. ويا يومَه عَزَّ الأنام بفقدِه

    فأنتَ بمولاهُم تُعزّى المَواليا

    Oh day of his loss, glorified by all peoples

    Through their master you gain solace readily

  13. وحاشاكَ سيفَ الدولةِ اليومَ أنْ تُرى

    من الصبرِ خُلوا أو إلى الحزنِ ظامِيا

    Never shall you see Swords of State's sword today

    Bereft of patience or steeped in agony

  14. فإنْ تَكُ أفنتْ سطوةُ الدّهْرِ عمرَه

    فعُمْرُ عُلاهُ يتركُ الدّهْرَ فانِيا

    Though the days have ended his life's span

    His lofty life leaves fleeting days vainly

  15. وما فيه مفقودٌ إذا كنتَ حاضراً

    ولا فيهِ مَثكول إذا كنتَ باقِيا

    Nothing is missed if you're present

    Nothing yearned for if you remain eternally

  16. ولمّا عَدِمْنا الصبرَ بعدَ محمّدٍ

    أتينا أباهُ نستفيدُ التّعازِيا

    When we lost patience after Muhammad

    We came to his father seeking condolences

  17. عجبتُ له كيفَ استقلَّ بحزنِه

    عليْهِ وقد هدّ الجبالَ الرّواسِيا

    I wondered how he bore his grief alone

    When mountains quake from sorrows mightily

  18. ولكنّهُ سيفٌ إذا التبستْ بهِ

    صُروفُ اللّيالي رَدَّهُنّ نَوابِيا

    But he's a sword, when dark nights close in

    He repels them, ever bright and shiningly

  19. جديرٌ إذا مالجَفنُ جلّلَ نصْلَه

    بتمزيقِه حتى ترى النّصلَ بادِيا

    Worthy, when his eyelids droop, to bare his blade

    Till you see the steel gleam brilliantly

  20. بِطولِ ذِراعٍ لا يَرى الرمحَ نائلاً

    وحدّةِ كفٍّ لا يَرى السيفَ كافِيا

    With arms spread so no spear seems out of reach

    With clenched fists so no sword seems inadequately

  21. إذا الحُزْنُ ولّى نفسَه صدرَ جازعٍ

    أقامَ عليه حسبة الصبْرِ والِيا

    When grief twists a mourning heart

    Patience stands guard over him staunchly

  22. فلا زالتِ الدُّنيا ولا زالَ مجدُه

    يُغرّي به أيامَها واللّيالِيا

    His glory has not waned as days go by

    Mocking their nights and days scornfully
