لا أَرهبُ الدهرَ اذا تَعرمَّا

ولا أُرى لحادثٍ مستسلمَا

I do not fear time when it grows harsh

Nor do I see myself surrendering to adversity

ولا أَعدُّ الشكَّ ليلاً مظلما

وما عليَّ أَنْ أكونَ مُعدَمَا

I do not spend the night immersed in doubt

And it is not up to me to be annihilated

حتى متى تُعطي الرجاءَ عِنَانَه

وتُعلِلُ الموجودَ بالمفقودِ

How long will you give hope its rein

And see nonexistent things in what exists

حُوشيتَ من كبد اذا سكَّنتها

نَفَرَتْ وَطَرف بالبكا معقودِ

Calm the rage in your liver if you can

Then it recoils, while the eyelid remains shut in weeping
