كانَ فينا طَيفُ الخَاليِ طمُوعا

قبل أَنْ نَعرِف الأَسى والدُّموعَا

The phantom of dawn was among us as aspirations

Before we knew sorrow and tears

فَوَصَلْنا بوصلِها زَفَراتٍ

تصدعُ الشَّأنَ أو تَفُضُّ الضُّلوعَا

So we reached with its connection heavy sighs

That split dignity or spill guts

يا لقومٍ لطارقٍ منع النو

مَ فأَمسى دون الشِّعَارِ ضَجيعَا

Oh people whose dweller of the tent night prevented from descent

So he slept lacking the banner, stretched out

ولسِتٍ من الشبادِعِ لويأ

مُرْنَ رِجليَّ لم يكنْ ملسوعَا

And whose horse taken from the stables wasn’t yet trained

To make its legs supple, it wasn’t yet broken in

عددُ النَّجْمِ انْ تَفرقنَ ينكَرْ

نَ ويُعرفْن انْ طلعنَ جَميعَا

The number of stars, if dispersed are unrecognizable

And are known if they rise together

ما أُبالي بما رميتُ اذا كنت

تُ بَريّاً من الفُلولِ صَنِيعَا

I don’t care what I’m accused of if I am

Innocent of the remnants, built up

يعلقُ الصِدقُ بالفؤادِ من القَوْ

لِ وانْ كانَ كلُّهُ مَسْموعَا

Sincerity clings to the heart from the words

Even if all of it is heard

ليس الا الاباءُ هل غَير أنْ أَع

رى اذا ما أَبيتُ أَو أَن أَجوعَا

It’s only the fathers, is there anyone else, that if

I refuse or hunger

أَو ألاقي صدرَ الحسامِ فلا أن

كلُ عنه ولا أكونُ جزوعَا

Or face the breast of the sword but don’t

Give in or become broken

بئس ما ساترخص المساومُ في البي

عِ اذا استرخص الرجالُ البُيُوعَا

Evil is how the bargain for sale becomes cheapened when

Men make themselves cheap in sales

اِذْ رآني كالصقرِ سُلَّ جناحا

ه وكانا الى الحِمامِ ذريَعا

When he saw me like an eagle whose

Wings were clipped and it was now easy prey

أمنتْ ريشَهُ المُنَزَّعَ منه

وهي تَرعى بجانبيه وقوعَا

It trusted the feathers pulled from it

While it grazed at my sides, prone to fall

جَادَ قَصر السلامِ نوءٌ من الجب

هةِ يَنفي حنَّانَةً زعزوعَا

The palace of peace poured from the mountainside

Banishing the twittering of an uprooted dove

صَنعٌ لا يزالُ بالطَلِّ والوب

لِ الى أَنْ تَرى المصيفَ رَبيعَا

A making that doesn’t cease with rising and setting

Until you see the summer as spring

وسَقَى اللهُ أَحسنوا الوص

لَ ولكن لم يُحسنوا التوديعَا

And God watered the best union but they

Didn’t know how to bid farewell

نَزلوا نَجْوةَ المكَارمِ واحتَلْ

لُوا محلاً من المَعَالي رَفيعَا

They came down to the bounty of honors and took

A lofty position of highness

واذا رامَ جارهم مستضيمٌ

خِلتَ أَبصارًهُم شَريْنَ نَجيعَا

And if their neighbor wanted to wrong them

Their eyes became stern, gazing

كَرِهُوا الشينَ في الجلودِ فما من

حذرِ الموتِ يلبسونَ الدروعَا

They hated evil in skin so they don’t

Wear armor fearing death

وهم يمنعون قاصيةَ السّر

بِ ويحمونَ جَارهم أَنْ يضيعَا

And they protect the honor of kin

And guard their neighbor from loss

واذا كانَ في جوارِ سِواهم

تابعاً كانَ فيهم متبوعَا

And if an outsider was staying with them

He was a follower, in their company

يَسْهَرُونَ الليلَ الطويلَ حفاظاً

ويلذُّونَ أن يكونَ هُجُوعَا

They keep vigil the long night protecting

And love to be sleepless

قَدْ أَلفناهُمُ فما تُذكرُ الأو

طانُ شوقاً ولا نَحنُّ نزوعَا

We were accustomed to them so the homelands aren’t

Mentioned in longing or do we desire departure

أَصبح القادرُ الامام أبو العبا

سِ للبِأسِ والنَّدى ينبوعَا

The Able Imam, Abu Al-Abbas became for heroism and munificence

A spring whose necks bowed down submissive

نازحاً عن تأملِ الأَعينِ الشُّو

سِ تلوَّى له الرقابُ خُضُوعَا

A wonder! How he prevents the sun with eclipse

But doesn’t prevent the stars from rising

عجباً كيف يَمنعُ الشَّمسَ بالنَّق

عِ ولا يمنعُ النُّجُومَ الطلوعَا

Is it so the night can be seen humble

To the light of dawn through your submission?

أَغِواراً أَمْ غَيرةً أَنْ يُرى اللي

لُ لضوءِ الصباحِ منكَ خُشُوعَا

Oh Imam of Guidance I fall short in thanks

So be for me to your heights intercessor

يا اِمامُ الهدى عَجَزتُ عن الشك

رِ فكن لي الى علاكَ شفيعَا

I tried counting favors but couldn’t do it

Blame falls only on the able

رُمتُ عَدَّ الثرى فلم أَسْتَطِعْهُ

انما اللومُ يلزمُ المستطيعَا

You are most faithful to them if they break

A pact and most protective if the flock scattered

أَنتَ أَوفاهم اذا نقضوا العَهْ

دَ وأَحماهم اذا السربُ ريعَا

And you chose from the preparedness of Quraysh

Healing its roots and branches

وتخيرتَ من مَعَدٍّ قُريشاً

مسْتَشِفاً أُصولَها والفروعَا

So you assumed from its eminent glory

Not gathered before you

فتبوأتَ من قُصي بمجدٍ

م يكنْ قبلَ جَمعِهِ مَجموعَا

Then from Hashim its lofty peaks

That make eyes turn back

ثُمَّ من هَاشِمٍ شَواهقَها الشُّمْ

مَ اللواتي تثني العيونَ رُجوعَا

Traveling the expanse of caliphs and eras

Meeting the spreading good news

سارياً في مَطَا الخَلائفِ والأط

هارِ يلقى بكَ المُسِرُّ المذيعَا

Then you presented outstanding excellence

Not a successor or predecessor

ثم بَرَّزتَ تُفِلسُ السُّبَقَ الجَرْ

يَةَ لا تابعاً ولا مَتبوعَا

So you reached the goal gently while not every

Steed reaches its extent gently

فأتيتَ المَدى وَدِيْعاً وما كُلْ

لُ جَوادٍ يأتي مَداهُ وديعَا

And the Heir, the Prince Abu Al-Fadl will be

For his fathers, loyal

وَوَليُّ العَهْدِ الأَميرُ أَبو الفَضْ

لِ لآِبائِهِ يكونُ تَبيعَا

Crouching with the crouch of a snarling lion as if

He were herding ostriches, alarmed

رابضاً ربضةَ الهِزَبْرِ كأَنَّ النْ

نَاسَ يَحْدُو بِهِمْ نَعاماً مَروعَا

So you reached the goal gently while not every

Steed reaches its extent gently
