1. أَمَرتُكَ يارِياحُ بِأَمرِ حَزمٍ

    فَقُلتَ هَشيمَةٌ مِن أَهلِ نَجدِ

    I commanded you, O winds, with a decisive command

    So you said, "We are but fragments from the people of Najd"

  2. وَقُلتُ لَهُ تَحَفَّظ مِن قُرَيشٍ

    وَرَقِّع كُلَّ حاشِيَةٍ وَبُردِ

    And I said to it, "Be wary of Quraysh

    And mend every tear and cloak"

  3. وَقُلتُ لَهُ تَحَرَّز مِن رِجالٍ

    عَلى مَحبوكَةِ الأَصلابِ جُردُ

    And I said to it, "Be wary of men

    Whose innate dispositions are bare"

  4. وَوَجداً ما وَجَدتُ عَلى رِياحٍ

    وَما أَغنَيتُ شَيئاً غَيرَ وَجدي

    By God, I have never found any good in winds

    Nor have I accomplished anything except my passion
