وَإِنّي لَزَوّارٌ لِمَن لا يَزورُني
إِذا لَم يَكُن في وِدِّهِ بِمُريبِ
Indeed, I often visit one who does not visit me,
provided there is no cause to doubt his affection.
تُقَرَّبُ لي دارُ الحَبيبِ وَإِن نَأَت
وَما دارُ مَن أَبغَضتُهُ بِقَريبِ
The beloved’s home feels near to me, though it lies far away,
while the home of one I hate is never near.
فَلا تَطلُبَنَّ القُربَ وَالبُعدُ بَعدَها
إِلى غَيرِ نِيّاتٍ وَغَيرِ قُلوبِ
So, after this, seek neither nearness nor distance
anywhere but in intentions and in hearts.
